Just curious - it seems to be a rather nice revolver, for a great price, too.
(There's a Smith and Wesson .22lr revolver that I think is awesome but it's roughly a grand - forgot the model number)
Anyone have experience with the Taurus Tracker .22lr?

Thanks...

The issue mentioned with them that it if you get the springs /trigger pull light enough for a good feel likely the design of the hammer (too light weight compared to the S&W K/L .22 like the 17) will not give you reliability.

I've only played with a couple but I did find it to be true.

I have a tracker in what I believe is a 6.5 inch barrel. I have had no problems with the gun but for the weight. I have a s&w 317 in the 3 inch barrel that I prefer to shoot. The tracker only gets shot once or twice a year as compared to the S&W many times a year

Have one of each, Taurus 970 Tracker and S&W 617/no dash.
I’d rate the Taurus’s fit and finish at about 90-95% for fit and finish compared to the S&W.
Out of the box the Taurus had a better/smother trigger then my S&W so much so that I cracked the 617 and did my first revolver trigger job.

Now with the smoothed out and crisp trigger of the 617, the Taurus is waiting in the safe for my son to come of age.

If you’re on a tight budget I wouldn’t hesitate purchasing the Taurus. Just be sure to test the trigger or you may want to shop around for a used S&W model 17.

Taurus Tracker in 44 mag. Keep in mind I've had this gun less than 30 days and 40 rounds have been put through it. I bought it new. My first clue to what was in store was when I got it home. I took it out of the box and the cylinder fell out onto the floor. Not to be outdone, I fooled with it a bit and got it locked back in. Took it to the range twice and both times something just felt "not quite right." Yesterday, on my third trip to the range, it locked up on the first cylinder of shells, completely locked up, cocked. The hammer was locked back, cylinder was locked, couldn't do anything. I fooled with it a bit, let some other handgun guys who were there fool with it. We couldn't get it unlocked. So...I made the trip home with a loaded, cocked, 44 magnum in my car. When I got home, I had to take the thing apart to get at the mechanism inside. Got it unlocked and took the shells out. After the shells were out I fooled with it and it either locked completely or the cylinder wouldn't turn. I bought this gun for a trail gun, short barrel, powerful, pretty gun, easy to handle and pull out of my jacket. Stainless steel. It may be able to be fixed but I'm not going to fool with it. I've lost all confidence in the gun and I just don't want it anymore. When I load a gun and pull the trigger, I expect it to go off. I'm going to get rid of it. Sell it, trade it, or whatever but I won't keep a gun like that in my house. That's my first and last experience with anything Taurus. The next one will be Ruger or Smith. It's a pretty gun to look at but that's about all you can do with it. It was around $100 less than the next one up. You get what you pay for...

You mean that you didn't handle it at all before you paid for it, then took it home? Just out of curiosity, with a gun that latches both front and rear, and swings out on the crane, WHAT was the cause of the cylinder falling out? Even if the screw holding the crane in the gun were missing, the latches would have held it in place until you released the cylinder, and pointed the gun downward.

FYI, the OP was asking about a .22 Tracker, a different gun. :)

The gun was ordered new for me and I just went and picked it up. I did not handle it at the store. I just picked it up and went home. I unlocked the cylinder and swung it open. The pin that holds it to the frame just slid out. After a bit I was able to snap it in or something, not sure how I fixed that particular problem. FYI- I know he was asking about a 22 but it was a Taurus. Just tipping him off to what he might have to go through for getting a "good deal."
