Would a tc encore in 223 be good for coyote hunting? What yardage would you consider sooting at.

Sure it would be, just make sure you have a steady shooting platform, ie. shooting sticks, bench, tree, etc. I have a T/C contender chambered in .44 magnum with a 14 inch barrel. I'll tell you one thing, that thing is a monster. Everyone that sees it automatically extends respect! Make sure with the 223cartridge that you have a sufficient barrel length to maximize the powder burning prior to the bullet exiting the barrel. 12 to 14 inches would be ideal for a handgun.

Not for the general population. But if you like it and can hit what you aim at, then its good for you.

I personally wouldn't be shooting animals at 200+ yards with it, but then I am not you, and you are not me. Its all about comfort levels.

TC Contender in .223, with 14 Inch hunter barrel, 3-8 variable scope.
I shoot jack rabbits and coyotes with it all the time. Used to shoot Prairie dogs out to 200 yds, but moved to Oregon.
Accurate, inexpensive, easy to adjust the trigger.
Excellent gun for the job.

Good load for 22-250 out of a short barrel that can be purchased over the counter?

This is very interesting. I think the TC 223 barrel has a 1:12 twist rate and from what I've read, it will only stabelize bullets under 60 grains. Wish they made a 1:9 twist and not sure if they make one, a heavier slower bullet would be nice for cyotes.

I've shot rabbits with 223 from my 16" ar. The bullet just goes through them so they may hop a few dozen yards afterwards. Granted I was using fmj. This round has high velociety, not the best but does the job.

You can use it's high velocety to your advantage. IMO, it's a bit more accurate within the range of your zeros. With this in mind, a shot just behind the ear will drop that dog or deer where it stands.

Be interesting to see if anyone has loaded hollow points in 223 and what results they had in the chest cavity area with a 55 grain bullet.

Encore is great, but you ought to look at a .22-250 (or .204 if you're going to shoot high-volume). .223 is a little anemic -- compared to these other rounds -- past about 250 yards. The main advantage of a .223 is great accuracy research and slightly cheaper ammunition costs.
