January 3, 2004 — Chicago police are searching for two people who may have been accompanying a 16-year-old that was killed when he pointed a handgun at an off-duty officer.
Police spokeswoman Alice Casanova says the officer was in his vehicle last night when he heard a series of gunshots coming from an alley in the 36-hundred block of N. Lavergne in the city's Portage Park neighborhood.

The officer spotted the boy and ordered him to drop the weapon.

But Casanova says the teen pointed the gun at the officer who then opened fire, striking him in the abdomen.

The teen was pronounced dead at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Casanova says detectives are now searching for two people who may have been with the teen at the time of the shooting.

How on earth could this have possibly happened? :uhoh:

I thought handguns were unlawful in Chicago?

And isn't it also unlawful for a child under 18 to have a gun without parental supervision?

Something sounds mighty suspicious here.

Well, if we can't enforce the laws that we have on the books now, the only solution is to pass more laws
