Tell me about Arizona

Just got back from one week in Casa Grande, Arizona. In a nutshell, went to Salt River Canyon with a great mexican meal in Globe, Tuscon for a ballgame, dinner with my brother & his gf at Rustlers Roost in Chandler?, Sedona to check out the red rocks and the artsy fartsy, Cottonwood and the Tuzigoot ruins, and shooting with some old high school buddies in the desert, where I got to experience the wonders of the Cholla cactus. :uhoh

I was very intrigued by this State. I know one week is not enough time to experience everything about Arizona, but I was impressed with the hospitality of the people, the weather, and the openness of the land. What more can you Arizonians tell a Michigander about why its nice to live there?

Also, is there a big difference between Arizona and say, New Mexico, Utah, or Nevada?

AZ gun laws are great we got a D from the Brady bunch.

Arizona allows open carry

There is no 7 day wanting time on pistols.

It's easy to get a CCW.

Also all the evil guns are legal and so are Full auto.
 
I just read the Brady report card for the states and the criteria after seeing that post. Its amazing that it completely ignores actual statistics and only grades on the laws strictness.
 
And don't forget really hot here...

Even though we have open carry, I haven't done it except when I go to the range, I don't think I want to deal with the sheaples and un-informed LEO telling me it is illegal and otherwise freaking out. But if needed, it's nice to have the ability to do so.

I guess I can understand the want to blend in Tucson and Phoenix, but my BIL open carries in Bullhead all the time and I think he's only gotten the :what: reaction once or twice.
 
Arizona was high on the list of places I thought about moving to when life in the People's Republic of California became unendurable.

I dearly love the desert and all that vast, vast quantity of light. I'd rather be too hot than too cold. I spent several days in the Phoenix area, and liked a lot of what I saw—except for the gazillions upon gazillions of illegal aliens everywhere. They were a significant part of the reason for leaving the People's Republic of California in the proverbial "first place."
 
In Arizona you can have a snowball fight, go tubing down the Salt River, play sand volleyball and party with beautiful college co-eds, all in the same day.

Or you can take your Class III firearms to the range and turn money into noise until you're broke!:D
 
I have come to enjoy Tucson very much.

I was there for 2 years before coming to the land of Kimchi.

I will return there after I leave here. (62 days)

The Summers are hot but not unbearable. Heck I go golfing all the time in the summer when its over 100 and its not unbearable at all. Prices are dramatically lower in the summer for obvious reasons.

Winters are a breeze. Like highs in the 50's and occasionally lower whenever the cold spell hits. Overall though its beautiful in the winter.

Monsoon season (Fall) you have some good rainstorms crop up.

If your looking for greener areas other than Phoenix?Tucson then the White mountains or Flagstaff area will fit the bill.

We get snow up on Mt. Lemmon from time to time and there is a ski resort up there. Most of the Tucson crown flocks up there for winter sports when it gets snowfall accumulation. The road up is pretty busy if you know what I mean.

Hunting is great. Lots of birds and Javelina down south. Deer are out there just have to do alot of glassing/walking.

Gun laws are user friendly so to speak. Take a 16 hour course and send in your app and thats about it. Cost varies depending on who's giving the class. State fees I believe are around $50. Guys help me out if Im off on that. Cant remember cause I have had mine for 2 years now.

Open carry is allowed but not as popular in the big cities compared to the surrounding areas. Its not uncommon though to see open carry. I did it the first 3 months I was there.

Alot of gunshows. Almost every weekend you can find one in the Phoenix/Tucson area. No waiting period on purchases either.

Yea there are quite a few folks of the Hispanic nationality there but I have never had any problems with them at all. Maybe cause Im hispanic too. Food is great there too. And one cannot forget ice cold Tecate beer. XX Dos Equis are good too.

Every big city has its danger areas and Tucson is no different.

Overall, I enjoy Tucson. Just wish there were more lakes to fish in.
 
Oh yea, one other thing. A downfall for me is the fact that I never had allergies in my life but for some reason since I have been in Az I have had some allergies kick up. Wife and kids too.

Maybe its cause we spent most of our lives in the lush green areas east of the Mississippi.
 
My uncle is in the Prescott area and he's very concerned about the long term water supply; so, be careful where you move. According to him, some parts of the state are about 5 years into a drought cycle (that tree ring data indicates lasting for roughly 30 years) and water levels can be very low. Consult your local hydro-geologist.
 
Lived in Flagstaff for a while. Broke my heart to leave and come back to NJ. would move back in a heartbeat if the opportunity arose. By the way, Flagstaff is not hot/ hot. 110 in. of snow a year. Quantrill

Jack19 - My brother also talked about the water supply and his concerns with the number of people who are moving to Arizona.

Is this a viable problem in Arizona or do people just stick their heads in the sand? (No pun intended)
 
AHHHHH YES, ARIZONA, AN INTERESTING PLACE.

Everything in the A.T. will either bite you, poke you, jab you, or stick you. It's hotter than the hinges of hell in the summer and only the north knows the joys of winter.
You also hafta watch out for the women done there. Once they git you in their sights yore a dead duck let me tell you. I met this gal from Wickenburg back in '02 and in February '01, the 14th to be exact, damned if she didn't call me and ask me to marry her. I can resist everything but temptation and you know the rest. I was a gonner from the gitgo!!!!
So on june 7, '01 we were married at the Whittington center in Raton NM and off to South Dakota we went hellbent for election where we have lived happily everafter since she loves shooting, guns, horses, her bass fiddle, amd my sweet pink patootie.
LIFE IS GOOD.
