I'm looking to buy a CZ in the next couple of weeks, and I'm hoping I'll be able to get my hands on an SP-01 locally, but if not, one of my area shops has three 75Bs in stock for a very fair price - two with Omega triggers for $479, and one non-Omega for $430.

I'd never heard of the Omega trigger before, so I came home and did some searching. According to CZ's official blurb, Omega is basically a parts reduction measure and allows the gun to be stripped slightly further "without the use of tools." According to what I've read here on THR, it's equivalent to a basic trigger job on an original 75B trigger.

So, my question is - is it worth the extra $50, or would I get arguably the same results out of a home trigger job on the non-Omega 75B and be able to use that $50 for more ammo or a nice pair of grips instead?

Edit: For a bit more clarification, this will be a nightstand and eventually a CCW gun, cocked and locked. I don't anticipate shooting it in DA unless I have a FTF, so I'm not very concerned with the DA pull on either trigger system. Lighter and smoother is still better, obviously, but it's not going to be a dealbreaker.

Stay away from it. For no other reason than you can't use the Kadet kit with it.

Yeah, I would eventually like to get a Kadet kit as well - that's one of the biggest benefits to going with a CZ over something else, to me: being able to convert my carry gun to rimfire for practice, plinking or trail use.

I've read here, though, that some of the enterprising people at CZForumSite were able to get the Kadet kit working with the Omega trigger, though I've not yet searched there to see how in-depth the tweaking is...

I have a CZ 75B Omega and a CZ 75B SA.

The Omega trigger is much simpler then the standard double action trigger on CZ's.

But that is not the only difference between Omega 75b's and regular 75B's.

The Omega has a drop free magazine break, an larger magazine release, and an upswept beavertail that the orginal 75 b does not have.

The difference in the two triggers basically amounts to the Omega has a harder double action pull, but a nicer SA pull then the orginal. I still had a trigger job done on mine and it's quite nice.

You can not use the Kadet kit on the Omega, but the CZ site from the Czech republic (not cz usa) says they are working on an omege trigger system kadet kit.

One other supposed advantage of the Omega is the ability to switch between a manual safety and a decocker. However there are no decockers available yet like there P-07 duty has (P-07 duty model also uses Omega trigger system).

I called CZ usa and they stated that decockers are coming sometime this spring or summer.

/shrug who knows, lol.

I would not be suprise that if eventually we dont see all newer CZ's move toward the omega system due to its simplicity and its easy ability to change up between manual safety and decocker.

+1 Dom, thank you for all that!

I also have no interest in decockers so it really seems like it's going to come down to whether a $50 Omega trigger or $50 worth of trigger job/parts on a non-Omega would get me a nicer SA pull.

The double action on mine is good / very good IMO. I did get the omega trigger. I didnt notice a huge difference, but I do like the Omega better. I dont remember a 50.00 upcharge, but if I went to the gun shop to buy another one, I would get EXACTLY the same.

It is easily the most accurate pistols I have ever shot.

Dont under estimate the value of the upswept beavertail. It really helps to control on recoil. Not to mention the larger magazine release, which can be exchanged for the even larger magazine release found on the shadow model.

However if you are going to by a kadet, get the standard model.

To me the kadet kit is a huge advantage of the CZ platform.

You can practice everything with the kadet kit except recoil control.

I didn't even notice the beavertail - I will ask to handle and dry-fire both the Omega and non-Omega guns before making a purchasing decision - but would it be possible to simply buy a CZ-85 magazine release from CZ or Numrich and swap it out with the stock release myself if I decided it was necessary?

I dont know about the mag release.

The upswept beavertail allows you to get a higher grip on the pistol to allow better recoil control when doing rapid firing.

THe sp-01 has the upswept beavertail too.

I'd prefer a SP-01 anyway - the rail would allow me to mount my TLR-1 if needed - but being that new examples are out of my price range, I'll either need to luck out on a used one or "settle" for a 75B...

I'd love a 75B with the Omega system, lemme tell ya, it was a pain and a half to get my 40B broken all the way down and then de-break it down.

I hate roll pins.

I don't know. I just hate roll pins. They made working on my PCR and 40B a real pain.

Just as an update, I ended up going with the Omega 75B.

I couldn't feel a whole lot of perceptible difference in the triggers - the Omega is slightly smoother in SA, but barely so - but the beavertail is what made up my mind. The old 75B dug into my hand and actually almost gave me a blister; the new upswept beavertail on the Omega guns feels a lot better and allows for the high grip I prefer.

I see a pair of night sights in my future, but other than that I'm about as happy as can be with the new gun. Wish the CZ forum were a bit more active though...

Looks like I'm too late to suggest the non-Omega trigger due to the pure joy I experience with the Kadet kit converting my satin nickel in .40 S&W.

You'll still be nuts about what you bought I know.

Any decent improvement to the CS SA trigger is WELL worth it.

MOST CZs could not come close OTB to SIG, S&W, etc. - they were worse than Tanfoglios.

It is good that they addressed it.

Losing the Kadet Kit use is not good however...

I found the CZ stock trigger to be just fine, I guess all of mine were handpicked and gunsmithed prior to me getting them. :) I have the P07 with Omega, and it's nice. BTW, the newest thing on the horizon is the P02, the P01 with Omega trigger and P07 style decocker/manual safety, switchable by user.

I have a CZ 75B Omega and a CZ 75B SA.

Philo, how would you compare the single action trigger pull on your 75B SA versus your 75B Omega (with trigger job)?

Would either one be close to a well tuned 1911 trigger?

mtnmasher, I don't have an omega but I have a 75sa that I have been working on. Stock the triggers don't compare to a nice 1911. I would now say the trigger is as good as 1911, better than some. I changed out the stock hammer with a competition hammer. I also put in a 15lb. hammer spring. I changed out the stock trigger with a straight one that has pretravel and overtravel adjustment. Just doing this makes the trigger break very clean but it still has a bunch of pretravel because of the firing pin lifter having to reset. So I then took out the firing pin safety and the firing pin safety lifter and put in a spacer to replace the lifter. The hammer has a half cock notch just like a 1911 so I'm not worried about the safety. Now I was able to adjust the trigger properly. The trigger now has no overtravel less take up than my kimber and breaks cleanly at about 3 and a half pounds and shoots great. Mark

That is very useful information. I heard that at some point the standard trigger on the SA had both pretravel and overtravel adjustment, but I haven't been able to find out what is shipping on new guns.

Even with the straight trigger you must have disliked the pretravel quite a bit, or you wouldn't have removed the firing pin safety. What made you decide to go that route?

Lastly, did the competition hammer eliminate the camming?

The standard trigger only has adjustment for overtravel, none for the takeup. This trigger installed sits straight up and down, alot like a 1911 trigger. On the competition hammer it eliminates the camming. As for removing the firing pin safety my kimber doesn't have one and I have owned several hi powers that didn't have them either. This gun is for target shooting and matches so I would rather have the good trigger. My home defense gun is a bone stock ruger p95.
Here's a custom cz for sale that has a SA lower with an SP0-1 upper that doesn't have a firing pin block, it's made that way. http://czcustom.com/sashadow9mmno851.aspx Here's a pic of the straight trigger (not my gun). Mark

I've had my CZ 75B Omega for over a year now and have put a couple thousand rounds through it. The trigger went from being smooth to being like butter. I've shot a regular 75B and frankly, I have a hard time distinguishing between the two. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

It's my understanding that the Kadet kit will work with the Omega with a bit of fitting.

The SA pull is much shorter, the weight is about the same, but the SA his much much shorter.

You can get a CZ SA close to a tuned 1911 trigger if you remove the firing pin block, shorten the reset, install the custom hammer, CZ custom trigger, and put in a 13 lb mainpring.

If you are going to do all that I would suggest ordering it straight from CZ custom, they do excellent work. Make sure you specify however that you want the firing pin block removed it signficnalty increases grit and length of pull.
