Feel free to forward to like-minded persons.

Mostly bad bills to oppose.
Two good ones at the bottom of the list.

Go to http://www.congress.org/congressorg/mail/?alertid=61046526&type=ML and enter these short messages for your elected officials.
The system will remember your name, etc., so you only need to enter all that once.
After that, its cut-and-paste to hammer each of the respective the messages forward.

Please send a separate message for each bill

Please support H.R. 133 (sponsor: Representative Massie)
This bill would end federal law requiring that areas around schools be designated as "gun free zones."

Done! Not sure how much good it will do since Senator Manchin has already stated his "current" position on gun control (it will probably change again closer to the next election).

Done...10 separate messages.

At least some of the staffers will know how we feel.

ditto.
what good it will do, I don't know. but I did it anyways.

What's up with the proposed bill to raise the legal carry age from 18 to 21? The last I checked you already had to be 21 to legally carry a handgun on your persons. Is that not correct? If it is correct then these people are clearly idiots. And to think these are the people running the country is very worrisome indeed.

@SilentStalker:

In most locations it is illegal for an FFL to /sell/ a handgun to a person under 21. A person under 21 can still purchase, own, and carry a handgun otherwise (private sale, or given as a gift).

Done.

While I was copying and pasting I was wondering how effective this is compared to sending the NRA money. Any ideas? I've done both recently. I especially wonder what is most effective as I recieved a reply from Sen. Benett, (D) Colorado, along the lines of "commen sense gun control" to a message I sent last week.

In Arizona those with a clean record who are 18 or older can buy a handgun through a private sale (but not from an FFL) and carry it, open or concealed - no permit or license required.

This has caused absolutely no problems or increased criminal activity.

As said above, legal age to possess and receive a pistol is 18 under federal law (state law may differ). It is only illegal for a FFL to transfer a pistol to someone under 21.

This is in 18 USC 922 (x) if you're interested in looking it up.

Course you can join the Armed Forces when 18 and get a cannon or m-2 and all the asshalt rifles you can stand!:banghead:

Here's the link in Activism for the thread on these and some example letters. We're also recommending you contact your state officials as well since your governors have a voice in this debate (mine already announced that firearms weren't the problem and that there would be no new restrictive legislation in TN). http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=693562

Done... 10 messages sent. Its nice to be able to do something other than fuming and feeling impotent. :(
