I am retiring and moving to Sevierville, TN at the end of October.

Are there any state organizations doing a good job of protecting gun rights that I need to support?

Tennessee firearms association is about the most popular locally. I visit that particular area every few weeks. Traffic there is more depressing than the current political climate

Thanks, I'll check that one out.

Buying a house outside city limits on the east side, most of the stuff I need to get to on a regular basis I can access by back roads or briefly crossing over the main thoroughfares, plus travelling at non-peak times hopefully will limit my traffic aggravation. The mountain view off my front porch is going to be worth it anyway. :)

All of it can be bypassed pretty easy. The area from wilderness to the red light past buds gun and smokey mt knife works is pretty bad. I've seen people set 2 hrs and its probably 2 miles. No wrecks. Just that many cars. And cades cove is even worse.
A lot of guys got mad because TFA opposed the online carry permit course while NRA was for it. But their reasoning was solid to me. Reciprosity. They fear that some states will no longer honor TN because no hands on training is required. One could get a permit having never touched a gun. Va actually dropped Tn a few years ago but after some back and forth, reinstated. Id almost bet that Va drops TN now. This is important for the pigeon forge/ sevierville/ Bristol etc area because virginia is so close. Also note the sales tax in TN and VA (9.5 vs 5). It's often cheaper to drive the hour to bristol VA and pay less tax on big things. I actually live in NC but can stand in all three states at once by hiking to the marker

Virginia dropping Tennessee was not because of online training, because Virginia itself allows online training. The dropping of reciprocity was a political thing, and applied to a whole bunch of states. It was resolved, also politically, and the list of reciprocal states ended up actually being expanded from what it was before.

TFA is the only state association I belong to. I'm also in NRA, SAF and GOA.

I didn't say it was. I said it likely would be this time. Tennessee didn't have online permitting when Herring dropped the other states. Their reasoning was lax gun laws in the other states as to who could obtain a permit.
They seem to look down on NC and TN IME with their law enforcement. Granted TN has no inspections and in the mountains has some real crap on the roads. Lol. From watching bristol news I get the feeling that VA would like to join Ca and company and i think they will come after reciprocity again.

TFA has been mentioned, but the Tennessee Guns site is very active.

Note to members, keep this focused on 2A and save to commentary of traffic and flatlanders to PMs.
