Terry stops..........

In my experience, even if the police conduct a search illegally or without consent/pc, its best to say nothing and just let it happen. I've been arrested after denying concent, yet they search anyways and found something. Anything they've found on me that was incriminating was dismissed, the evidence suppressed. It's happened twice.

There was one instance when i was a teenager, partying in a parked car and two police officers pulled in behind us telling us to get out of the vehicle. We did not. They threatened to search the vehicle, we denied consent. Then one of them said if we dont let them search, they'll call a canine unit to rip the car to shreds. We said nothing and stayed in the car. After some minor smack talking on the officers part, they left us alone.

Traffic stop + search + contraband arrest is as easy as it comes.
Also, even where the individual LEO doesn't directly profit, there's BIG money in the drug war for cities and departments. Hence the series of legal carjackings via civil forfeiture that took place in the '90s in Louisiana. No evidence of a crime, but people had money, vehicles and other items stolen. The victims were almost always from out of state and frequently not native English speakers.

It's a perfect recipe for corruption and violations of individual rights.

What went wrong???????
I'm 58 and the same is true for me.

When I was a kid the cops were our friend. I was taught that if I got lost or was in danger hunt down a cop.

Now a days not so much.

Cops used to be peace keepers. Now they're law enforcers. Those aren't just a simple change in job descriptions but represent different attitudes the police have about how to deal with citizens.

Cops today look like skinheads in uniform. Musclebound monsters, wearing uniforms that are too tight to emphasize it, strutting around like they own the world and are generally control freaks in my experience.

Add to that the militarization of police departments with abundant military equipment and swat teams called out at the drop of a hat and its no wonder cops are feared more than respected.

Always remember the best way to deal with the cops is to not have to deal with them at all.

My younger brother (retired with 28 years) always said we aren't talking to you because you are entertaining or we are bored; we are talking to you because you are or we think you are invoved in/know something we are interested in.
