Ill have the results and new pics this weekend (9/4/08). this is a part 2 thread from these two threads

I will be free floating my factory bushmaster 16 inch barrel to see how much my groups improve.

then I am going to modify a 6 inch false silencer into a barrel weight/flash suppressor to see if it increases accuracy more then the factory flash suppressor by porting it and taking weight off it (cutting 1/8 inch off at a time) untill i get perfect harmonics or bust.

Good thread. If you are open to suggestions, I recommend making one change at a time. If you free float AND adjust the suppressor, you/we have no idea which caused what.

yea im going to shoot for an hour or so with the free floater. then take off the factory flash suppressor and put the barrel weight (altered false silencer) on and start messing with it.

well the altering of the false silencer is almost complete. I cut it down to about 3 1/2 inches and ported it. Ive got a little bit more touching up to do on the ports to make them all the same on both sides. my drill press drilled a couple of the holes a bit off when it went all the way through it so im just going to open them up a bit to make them all match but it should work fine. Ill post pics of it when im done.

flyinBryan, his brother, and I just got done installing the free floating handguard on our AR.'s with the factory barrels. We will be test firing them tomorrow morning and posting pictures of the groups to show how much they improve. here is a picture of my Ar now that it has a freefloating barrel.

consistant accuracy was greatly improved. far less flyers. out of 25 groups I would have to say 1 1/2 inch 5 shot groups was the average. I did have a couple of groups that 4 holes were touching and then a flyer out to the side about an inch. but over all freefloating the barrel increased the overall average greatly and tightened up the groups about an inch on average. here are a couple of the groups that were under 1 inch. these are all 100 yards

You forgot to mention how windy it was too. the wind picked up even more right after you left.

wouldnt be surprised if they get even better with calmer air.

i should have started with mine instead of that .22

thurston said his scope got way better after you fiddled with it.

It use to be. kinda like the fiddle case for the thompson. I use the coffin case for my AR
