I am working directly with a Tx state Senator and Rep on introducing new pro-gun legislation in the next Legislative term.

I have a meeting with them on Feb 5th. and will be working with their staff after that to formulate the bills.

Besides Constitutional carry. What other pro-gun bills would you like to see Texas pass?

One bill i am working on them with is a "2nd Amendment Preservation Act", as well as a bill to eliminate civil liability for non-conviction shootings, as well as requiring gun free zones to be patrolled by licensed armed security &/or liable for damages in cases of certain crimes. Treating campsites as your temporary home so that one can have their weapon without a license. (not needed if constitutional carry is passed)

Another bill would be to make firearms, and ammo tax free on the 2 tax free weekends that Texas all ready has every year, as well as making firearm safety devices, safes and locks tax free year around.

I would like to hear what YOU consider important for new pro gun bills in Texas would like to see.

In order to receive a drivers license and no income tax, new tx residents must qualify expert at an Appleseed and take a 40 hour class on the constitution and American history and gun safety. Until this is achieved, their income will be taxed at the rate of whatever state they left. Proceeds will go toward buying ammo for people who can’t afford it.

Replace food stamp program with an ammo stamp program.

Don’t be surprised if there’s some opposition to this by private property rights advocates and those hostile to more government regulation.

Why?
A negligent act may not be criminal. but should allow the injured party due process.
Example: Security guard/police officer/LTC holder drops his Sig while pulling up his pants in the restroom at Chuck E Cheese.....gun fires and a round strikes a waitress. The DA declines to file charges. Are you telling me the waitress would have no recourse in civil court?
I wouldn't support such a bill.

Gun free zones as designated by Federal law? Yeah, good luck with that.
And what "certain crimes"? You''ll happily deny the injured waitress above, but want a property owner, school or governmemnt to be liable for damages when a criminal chooses to commit a crime? Thats messed up.I wouldn't support such a bill.

So if you camp on my land you can claim it as your home? Nope, nope, nope.I wouldn't support such a bill.

Eliminate the state sales tax on firearms completely.

Eliminate all current Texas gun laws for a start.
Allow me to lawfully carry on school property without having to get permission from my school district.

First off current law in Texas makes any
negligent shooting illegal, If he cant get a conviction then it will be difficult for her in Texas to get damages anyways, as it stands. Current law has some protections allready. The Plaintif would have to show that their was Negligent on your part before it would proceed to trial. On the few cases that have been in texas only 1-10 lead to trial the rest are dismissed. Still costing both sides thousands of dollars in legal fees.

While a few areas are gun free by federal law. Such as certain parts of airports, planes, etc... Most areas in Texas are set by Texas law, or are private decisions. Such as AMC theater choose to be gun free, Texas has declared prisons, court houses etc... to be gun free, however there are armed police around.

The idea about holding the Buisness liable, is if you had allowed me to carry a gun, or if they had armed security, I would either have had a chance at protecting myself and others or the security may have been able to stop it, or reduce the damage. Without either then i am for sure dead or injured no questions. There would be no chance for any protection. At least with the other two options i have a greater chance at surviving. If no one at the Texas church had a gun, then its highly likely that even more people would have been killed. Churches in Texas have a choice of being gun free or not. It also gives an incentive to do away with gun free zones.

If i am camping on your land, your land is private land. So under current law if you gave me permission to camp AND you gave me permission to have my gun. Then no LTC is required because its private land AND you gave permission for my gun. This only would apply to public city and state parks that allow camping. It would not apply to KOA private camping type camp grounds. They would have a choice to be a gun free zone or not.

Elimination of sales Tax completely i can try, but doubtful as that tax money is money that goes to help pay for the state parks & game wardens. So if that happened you would have to pay more for your LTC and hunting licenses, and other state park fees.

Elimination of all Gun Laws probably wont happen either because that would be to drastic . That would then allow guns into areas that no one wants guns, like prisons, court houses, mental hospitals. etc.... it would allow many things to happen that shouldnt. including making it harder to put criminals behind bars. It would also allow children to have guns and no one wants that.

Schools? To many parents that are gun supporters would not even support that. Its hard enough to get laws passed to allow teachers and or faculty to carry. Which their is a bill proposed by another senator to allow schools to train teachers and deputize them as sheriffs deputies and let them have guns

I like the above ideas. One thing I wish we had more of in Texas is more shooting ranges. Maybe have the legislature increase the Texas Range Grant budget and reduce the matching Texas Range Grant expenditure from 25% to 10% or less? Here's a link to TPWD's Texas Range Grant application:

https://tpwd.texas.gov/education/hunter-education/shooting-sports-opportunities/targetrangegrants

And maybe provide some incentives for commercial shooting range investments? I don't know what those incentives might be, but thought I'd at least throw the idea out there on getting more places to shoot.

Anyway, good luck with your work on getting good pro-2A legislation this upcoming session and please keep us informed.
