Thanks Winchester, Nightforce and Trijicon! No More Excuses!

I took my twin Stealths (a .22-250 Rem and a .308 Win) to the outdoor range today. The weather was nice, 57 degrees with winds at 20 MPH, SSW. I am really ticked-off! Thanks to Winchester, Nightforce and Trijicon, I have no more excuses for if I miss my intended target! If they shoot this well, with cheap factory loads, in 20 MPH winds, what will happen with my soon-to-be-tested handloads Lapua handloads? The worst part of having good, reliable equipment? No more excuses for misses. Safe to say, the woodchucks and crows are DOA this summer.

I sighted the rifles yesterday indoors, at 50 yards. Today, upon arrival, I set-up, cleaned the barrels and wiped them dry. So, starting with clean, dry barrels, and factory ammo, these are the groups fired at 100 yards. I fired two sight-ins through the .308, and then a 3-shot group, no cool down. Remember, 20 mph winds!

Next I fired 2 sight-ins through the .22-250, and then a 9-shot group, no cool down. Again, remember, 20 mph winds. The small .224s didn’t fare are well as the .308s in the winds. The following are the Stealths’ set-ups:

Winchester Model 70 Stealth .308 Win
Ken Ferrel scope rail
Leaupold Mark 4, 30mm rings
Trijicon AccuPoint 2.5-10X56 scope

Winchester Model 70 Stealth .22-250 Rem
Warne scope rail
Nightforce 30 mm unimount
Nightforce 12-42X56 scope

Kachok, thanks. I've been trying to find some Core Locts. None to be found here abouts. I just bought a M70 Ultimate Shadow .243 Win, and would LOVE to see how Core Locts would do!

Thanks, Tim. I really am impressed with the current M70 quality. My .270 Win Super Grade shoots 0.50 groups at 100 yards, with factory Hornady, SuperFormance 130 grain SSTs. And dang, did it drop a deer immediately at about 205 yards!

I've had this .308 Stealth for about 3 or 4 years. Hand loaded with 155 grain Lapua projectiles, it is exceptionally accurate. I've taken 2 deer with it, each at about 200 yards. Very impressive, with the SuperFormance 150 grain SSTs.

I just purchased 1,000 Hornady 35 grain projectiles for my .223 Rem, a Weatherby Vanguard Varmint Special, and for this .22-250 Rem Stealth. We'll see how they do.

Thanks again for the post.

You're getting screwed. You're only using a little bitty part of the target.....:D

FWIW...I've had exception success with 50 grain Nosler BT's in my .223 and 22-250. In the .223 I use Varget and H-380 in the 22-250.

I never thought about that. I need to ask for a refund on those targets. I have been using Varget, and Benchmark because it's all I have, or could locate. I did order 8 lbs of Accurate 2700 for 55 grain projectiles, and 90 grain rounds in the .243. Feel free to post your favorite hand loads. I still need to buy some dies for the .22-250. Goodness knows why, though, I can't even press a projectile into a piece of fired brass. These chambers are very tight. Same goes for all 4 of my M70s.

Thanks for the post.
