tonight after i finish cleaning my taurus i notice little dirt in one of the rear sight dot, so i clean then very well, but then i had this crazy idea, lets make them Night sights, so i ask my wife if she had some Glow-in-the-Dark nail polish and the answer was no followed by a You_Are_Crazy look in her eyes hehehe... after a quick trip to walmart i came back with a Permanent GLOW-IN-THE-DARK paint, it cost me $3.75. i filled the dots with the paint and let it dry, and refill them for a second time. it came out beautiful but you got to be very very careful not to over do it. I know they aren't True Night sights but they work just as fine as any NS.

And this is how they look in a complete dark room. they look a lot better with the naked eye, for some reason the camara had a hard time focusing on the 3 dots in a complete dark room

Now, are you going to completely kill your night vision when you wake up to a bump in the night by charging these sights with a flashlight?

I understand that some people think that glow in the dark paint is an equal substitute for tritium, but the truth is that it isn't.

That being said, I'm glad these work for you.

The stuff is phosphorescent ... takes a light source to charge it and it discharges in a few minutes. This is what's in "glow-in-the-dark" toys and Halloween costumes and such.

i know that glow in the dark is not the same as tritium, but since this is a range gun... why not...

Now, are you going to completely kill your night vision when you wake up to a bump in the night by charging these sights with a flashlight?

you can always close your eyes for a sec and keep your night vision

Testor's (model paint) is available in fluorescent colors. They are inexpensive, if you can find them (probably in a hobby shop), work really well in low-light situations, and are outstanding in bright light, as well. Nothing beats tritium in the dark.

As for closing your eyes while you charge those sights: I have a feeling that dealing with the situation will make that HARDER than you think, as there'll be a lot of things on your mind if things go bump in the night.

Glad you found something that works. I consider myself to be blessed with relatively decent knight vision. I live alone, and if there is someone else in my home in the middle of the night, I don't worry about identifying who it is. They aren't supposed to be there so they either comply and get on the floor, or they will be shot. That said, the CT rail master I keep on my FNP-45 next to my bed provides all the light I need.

Now, no laser? Yes, then I grab a light as well.

this was more of a experiment than anything else, it is not my carry gun, or my night stand gun, in fact this is more of a range only gun that i let my friends use when we go shooting. BTW they keep glowing after 3 hours :)

Holy critics batman :) nice job 'Gray. I love doing little mods to my stuff. We only go around once so enjoy what you have. This is completely reversible anyhow.

Ha! Knight vision! Thanks iPhone for the auto correct!

It sounds positively heroic hey?

Did something similar, but also added white LEDs inside my safe to keep them charged. Works great, and power costs are a few cents per month.

Ya know, that's gotta come in handy spotting dragons after sunset!

After reading that, I am so thankful I have good bladder control! :D

460Kodiac, I did something similar with my M&P40c that was my HD pistol for a while. I was very pleased with the results and you really can't beat it for the money.

However, I found the sights were only usable within an hour after charging with from a light source (OcelotZ3's solution sounds doable though). I then purchased a XDm 4.5 with night sights and found they were usable at any time of night (especially after the eyes adjust to the dark).
Ultimately, I by put a light on my XDm after a buddy made a convincing argument concerning target recognition in the dark.
In retrospect, I should have gone that route from the start.

I still use tritium for my carry pistols as I also carry a flashlight whenever I expect to be out after dark. However, I find I like having a light illuminating my potential target so much that I put a light on my HD shotgun as well.
