Doc firing them is a tough task in small towns such as the one I live in, there is a situ called 'civil conspiracy' that is common, ol' police cheif come out to his taxpayer-provided car and find an envolope full of 20's on the seat. make him grin big. very few cops I have met are just decent men doing a job, those I say God Bless 'em.

We just did it. I know smaller towns can be difficult, but if they are that bad, people will start to fall in line. We also terminated the local city chief of police. Last, the council set up a review/complaint board to take in complaints and investigate incidents, with the expressed intent to be to remind the police that they work for us!!! It can be done, and it starts with 1 phone call.

Long ago I did a stint with a Narc squad, after a very short time, I was told I wouldn't fit in, and when I asked for a more specific reason, one of the guys took me aside and told me I "had no clue how dirty the game gets, all the way up the chain" and to go back to uniform duty. He also said I didn't have a choice in the matter. I imagine he saved my life.

I have seen local police (not my town) knowingly support (not arrest) a coke dealer who turns in the occasional supplier. Allowing one person to continue their illegal trade while arresting another person is very shady, and I'm sure there is a lot more going on that most people don't see. If the drugs are such a problem, why let anyone continue to sell it. The war on drugs corrupts and has no place in a "free" society.

As has been mentioned, there are good cops, I imagine most of those are visible in uniform, the ones that haven't been to taken in by all that Homeland Security crap and the Federal Way of doing things.

Sadly, and also has been mentioned, all too many departments are ruled by the feds. Remember the commercial, Call a Friend, Call a Cop? Where'd that disappear too? It just wouldn't fit today.

I was always taught that cops aren't you're friends. Most of the time, their whole purpose of talking to you is to get you to incriminate yourself (even if you are the one who called for help) or help them do their job (of enforcing unconstitutional laws).

So what town was this?
