The bedliner spray really works!

About 6 years ago I bought an old wards western field bolt action 16 shot .22 rifle for 10 bucks. The stock was cracked in a few places, the sights were missing and chrome plating was coming off the bolt

I sanded and glued the stock and replaced the sights buffed the rest of the chrome off but the stock still looked like crap.

This past weekend I sprayed the gun with bedliner spray from walmart
and the results were fantastic.

I recommend this treatment for non-collector guns and serviceable rifles with bad wood. SAR1 comes to mind...

Each can sells for about $6.50 and can do about 2 or 3 long arms.

I'm thinking about doing an old single shot pardner next.
 
Sometimes you don't have to spend big bucks to get big bucks results. Kudos. :cool:
 
I like the idea. I do have one question.

How does the bedliner coating react to the cleaning solvents?
 
I used bedliner to refinish the handquard and buttstock of a FAL i built. I was very pleased with the results. The furniture looked pretty crappy and i figured what the hey? i wasn't going to use it as beat up and ugly as it looked anyway. The nice thing about the stuff is you can vary the texture of the finish by how far out you hold the can. Bumper black works good on buttstock pads as well.
 
The coating is tough.

I doesn't react to anything after its cured. So far... Hoppes, rem oil,
WD40

I tried scratching it off with a small screwdriver then a spare SKS bayonet
and found the coating does not come off without a major effort.

The rough texture is about the best non-slip surface on a gun I've seen so far.

The entire gun is coated save the inside of the mag tube, bore and action.

Every other part is coated inside and out with 2 coats.

There was an added benefit of the partially cured spray helping bed the action into the stock better. In the case of this 75 year old rifle at least.
 
I've done both my SAR1 and 2 stocksets with it. It is great stuff, mine look/feel like good quality composite stocks due to the texture. Couldn't be more happy with the projects (unless of course I hadn't of slightly cracked the upper handguard on my SAR1 putting it back on, that would make me happier :( )
