THE CHP Badge??!!

I saw this ad on one of thegun magazines.

What do you folks think about this badge? I see a thin line in between legality and "impersonating" an LEO. Yes, CCW citizens have given the legal right to carry concealed. But coming up with a badge that looks like an LEO, I think might get you into trouble.

Im not so sure I would want that on my person If I was ever involved in an incident where I would have to make a court apperance.

You display your BADGE to the police and shout, "DON'T SHOOT. I'M A LEGALLY LICENSED HAND GUN OWNER." The police officer orders you to put down your weapon. You comply. Situation under control. One criminal under arrest and YOU'RE ALIVE!

So when the police pull up to a confrontation, the best thing to do is to reach into your pockets. :banghead:

really really good way to get killed by illiterate gang bangers who get out of county lockup on monday who go around monday night looking for a cop to shoot up.

to easy to get sent to jail for a little crime called "impersonating an officer".
and way to easy to join the "wanna be cop/vigilante brigade" when you come up for trial from a self defense shooting.

I have met some- they are spooky to say the least... I mean REALLY spooky! Their eyes dance and they are incapable of listening...
I feel more comfortable with gang bangers in my store, at least they are predictable!

What's the point?
I don't think the thing will help you if you're holding a perp at gun point. If he's yelling to the police "shoot him!" it will not cause well-trained police to shoot. Reaching into a pocket might ... disobeying the police orders while holding a gun in your hand might as well.
The ONE BIG DOWNSIDE as has been pointed out is it may cause someone to falsely believe you're a police officer, and that will get you a visit to the graybar hotel.
Unless you live in certain few states which do not require on to have a CCW permit, then what you REALLY need is ...THAT PERMIT. In the other states, you need to keep it simple, honest and direct.

Sadly, this topic has been done to death and it always gets heated beyond reason. Most think that it's somewhere between silly and dangerous, and there are always a few who insist that it's a good idea.
