The coolest FICTIONAL guns ...

The auto-draw pistols from Harry Harrison's Deathworld trilogy.
There is a cuff around the gunner's forearm with sensors that detect the positions of the tendons beneath them. When the tendons line up to indicate that the hand is in the proper position to receive the pistol, tensioned cables connecting the pistol to the cuff slap the pistol into your hand.
Opening your hand snaps the pistol back into the ready position.

No zombie apocalypse or end-of-the-world threads here, but phasers are OK to talk about?

Hmm....leaving aside the SF ray guns, the neatest bit of work was in the book "Logan's Run". Not the film, which was a faint echo of the novel. Sandmen have revolvers...but the ammunition steals the show. Nitro (high explosive), Ripper (armor piercing), Vapor (tear gas), Tangler (net), Needler (sleep darts)...and Homer (IR homing, the killing round).

The well-crafted part was that Logan only fires six rounds.
