The last resistance to total Democrat dominance in WA fell last week...and I do not see the situation reversing any time soon.....politically the state (and the city of Seattle) is getting loonier and loonier.

Basically the entire west coast is now the new "blue wall", Democratic party dominance.

My wife argued that we are getting a lot of people from other states (especially Texas) because of our strong job growth, especially in the tech industry, and this will re-balance the politics of the state....maybe it's the pessimist in me but I believe that people moving here actually support the current political situation...after all there is strong job growth in Texas too....so my point is that we are getting the "Texas liberals".

How long before we will get a state "assault rifle" ban or magazine capacity restrictions?? It cannot be too far down the road, all it will take is a mass shooting...what about becoming a "may issue" CCW state??.The local Democratic party has already expressed a desire for a tight relationship and policies coordination among WA, Or and CA on a...... " number of issues" so they say.

What are your thoughts fellow WA forum member?? Better starting to consider moving at some point??

Hopefully I'm seeing things bleaker than they really are...I hope....

I lived in Washington State up until six months ago.

For many years I watched Republicans maintain control of the state senate by one or two votes and thus beat back the gun haters. However, after seeing what happened in California and Oregon, I realized that it was only a matter of time until the gun haters had control of the senate, house and governorship. I knew when they did that they would inflict as much damage as they could on the right to bear arms.

I could see the Seattle liberals growing increasingly in numbers with no letup in sight. While I hoped that the tide would flow in the other direction I knew that it wouldn't be soon and would only happen after a lot of pain from skyrocketing crime and maybe an atom bomb from the North Korean dictator.

I did a lot of planning before choosing my present home. This is a very gun-friendly state. I bought a house here on the edge of the national forest, but in the city. for less than half of what a similar house would cost in King County. There are no homeless people here and drug use is rare. I think living in a dry county helps the situation. Unlike King County, my commute increases by about thirty seconds during rush hour.

Because there are so many like-minded people here, I already feel right at home. I'm retired so the low wages here have no effect on me.

Oh, did I tell you the deer graze on my front lawn?

Come to FL, Saturno, we need more right thinkers like you!
We are also experiencing runaway growth (again, like '08, ugh), but much of our immigration is the reverse of what you describe, the "New England Conservatives", so to speak.
Still, we need all the help we can get. Come on down brother.

We moved to WA about 7 years ago and politically & for gun rights it has been going steadily downhill. Part of the problem is that pro firearms folks don't always get out and vote on the important issues...the voter turnout - a joke really since most is by mail - was very low on 594.

Politicians will always feel emboldened when they won't think that their jobs are on the line. With the strong anti-gun crowd in the Seattle area it is critical that everyone who cares votes, writes/e-mails and shows up in person as often as possible. Otherwise we will be doomed to the same fate as CA and don't think for a moment that they won't soon impose an income tax as well...but that's a different saga.

I had this same conversation with my wife yesterday.

If you really study the pro-gun support in our legislature, a statistically significant amount of that comes from rural Democrats. If I'm not mistaken several pieces of NFA legislation was sponsored by Democrats, short-barrel rifles and suppressor comes to mind, those used to be unlawful to posses here.

Having said that, I have no idea where those same Democrats will land on issues such as assault-style weapons, magazine capacity and such. With enough pressure from their leadership they may well fold and join the gun ban party. And yes, all we need is one tragedy involving the use of firearms in WA; game-over.

I'm more concerned about the tax consequences of the new political balance of power, but THR isn't the place to go into that.

Welcome to a free state friend.
I think living in such a rural area is what helps with the lack of homelessness and drug issues. Mena only has about 5k people or so doesn't it?
