Just wondering if anyone has a gun they have always wanted but every time you get the chance for whatever reason you end up walking away with something else? For me it's the glock model 30. I have wanted one ever since I put my hands on one in the 90s. I've had a chance to get one several times over but every time there just seemed to be a really good reason to get something else. Last year I decided it was time to just go get one. I went to the dealer with the exact right amount for it. Then we started talking and I started looking at stuff on hand. Yep, you guessed it, I bought something else instead of the G30. A gently used like new fnp45 with a lot extras for 400$ was just too good to pass up. It's a great gun and no regrets getting it. I'd gladly carry it for work if I could. Then almost a year later I get a call about a glock G30s I had asked them about. They had one in stock and I new it wouldn't last long. It was not a blue label price like I wanted but 559 seemed a fair enough retail price. When I got to the shop they were already putting away the shelf stock for the night. When I held I held the gun it just felt right. Can't wait to see how it compares to the colt and sig. In a couple more weeks I'll find out.

For me that gun is the HK45. I've intended to buy one several times and always end up purchasing something else. Why? I don't know. I think part of me doesn't want to spend $1000 on a polymer pistol. When it come to rifles and all steel pistols the higher prices are fine, but on a plastic pistol I just don't see the value of more than $600-$700. I have a USP 45 I got used for $600 several years ago, so maybe once I catch a deal for a hk45 I'll finally add one to my collection.

There's 2. International Harvester Garand. Not sure why I'm so set on an IH, but I am. Have had several in my hands with money in my pocket and I'm always too picky and walk away, come back later and it's gone. Once I explained the IH ties to a stranger looking at one u decided against, and he bought it and followed me out the door. The other is a 32acp of any flavor. I really want a tomcat or a Walther pp, but so far no luck. There's a stack of the old CZ70s at a shop near me and as much as I want one, I keep talking myself out of it. I'm also considering a NAA guardian though, but i know it's too small for me.

Then there's the 10-22. I keep getting them but can't hang onto one. I keep trading them away after getting them how I want them. I have put 4 in hogue stocks, decent glass, sighted in and somebody makes a stupid offer that I accept. I need to just get one and engrave my name on it or something, maybe then it won't run away. Last one was traded for a Ruger .243 bolt rifle in wood stock with a nice leupold on it. Sold that rifle for 600 just before deer season...again stupid offer that I couldn't say no to.

Dan Wesson revolvers and Service Sixes.

They are always overpriced or have the wrong finish or are beat to hell or have the wrong barrel length or are the wrong model with fixed sights.

Those damn Goldilocks pistols never turn up when I'm looking for them. They only show up when I'm looking for something else entirely, so then it's a tough decision.

For me, in revolvers it's an S&W 629. Every time I see a pre lock one that looks good, I'm broke. If I have money, I don't see one I like, or it's got a 4" barrel, or it's insanely priced. I don't really need it, I have a Dan Wesson 44 that I don't shoot, but I still want one.

In semiautos, it's a Sig 226 in solid stainless steel. I had the cash recently, one was decently priced, and it looked great. And I passed. I don't know why. I bought some other guns instead.

In rifles, it's the gun I'm buying whenever my tax refund comes back, a Rossi 92 stainless 16" .357. I've passed on one many many times, but now I will finally pull the trigger on one.

I have that same problem. Just when I think I have settled on what gun I want something will come along (typically something I have seen here on THR!), and I will want that instead.

Two of my decades-old grail guns, that I've yet to acquire (mostly due to cost), are a pre-lock, 4", S&W 686, and a Browning Hi-power.
I see them on the local classified sites pretty often, and I just gnash my teeth that I didn't jump on them back in the 80's. :banghead:

Nope I buy what I want and ignore the rest.

Gun guys often have a list so some tend to float a few places down from the immediate priority because they are "nice to have," not absolutely "necessary."

HK P7, which is now so overpriced I'd have to grit teeth to part with the money.
Government issue 1911, which might happen in my lifetime thru the CMP.

Mostly stuff already collected and I'm late to the party.

I've always wanted to do a Mk 12 mod 0 build but I always talk myself out of it

Been meaning to pick up a Marlin 1895 or 1847 Walker revolver for years. Haven't brought myself to buy either yet.

For me it is the Browning Hipower. I really want a new one, but cannot justify the $900.00 plus tax price.

Same here but for a different reason. I like having a lot of spare mags and with the cost of nearly $70 per magazine for the HK45 I can't bring myself to buy one. I mean I would need like $1,400 in magazines alone! No thanks.

G/K43 ... a few years ago their market value soared well past what I would pay for a rifle. <sigh & smile>

EDIT:

Handguns : Autoloaders ... Sorry, I had opened this thread and then had to walk away to attend to something. By the time I returned I had forgotten the Forum Name and only saw the @SUBJ (The gun you want but never buy even when you can) and responded.

I am not aware of any handguns that would fall in this category for me.

CZ's (various ones), seems like every time I have convinced myself I am going to get this one or that one I end up with another Sig, Beretta or 1911.

I want to like the CZ's and I known a lot of you do, but IDK, just something keeps me from actually getting it. Probably the fact that I am just so familiar with the other three.

Mine goes the other way, not expensive, not nice, honestly might blow up in my hand type guns. I have a fascination with Saturday night special type handguns, new or old.

Right now, it's the Cobra Denali. $130 bucks. Oh well...
