Shot another 70 rounds of turk '43 ammo in my Hakim again today. I had made a modification and filed a slot next to the first slot in the gas system. I guess you would call this position Zero or 1/2. All ammo functioned fine except for two rounds that didn't clean the action and caused a stovepipe. Since this is a non critical situation it tells me that I am at a borderline point with the gas system that insures reduced wear but at the cost of only a 3% failure to eject rate. I can live with that for plinking and target practice.

The Turk stripper clips are useless, the fit is poor compared to german made clips and even stripping the rounds off by hand was a chore since many rounds "hung-up" in the strips themselves. I feel sorry for the Turk combat soldier, pulling the clip from the pouches was also time consuming. The pointed bullets would hangup on the pouch fabric and misc. threads, speed does not seem to have been a priority.

The rims of the ejected cases were in excellent condition showing little or no signs of excessive pressure. The chamber and action as a whole were not that dirty compared to other semiautos I've fired. I suspect the reputation of "dirty" turk ammo is due to too much gas being fed into the action due to a poorly ajusted gas valve, more gas = more dirt.

Out of the 70 rounds all fed and fired perfectly. Four rounds had split necks after firing, not bad for four cent, 61 year old ammo!

The Hakim is awesome at the range offhand. I must admit I continue to be a little intimidated by its muzzle blast, noise and the power of the Turk ammo. Exceeds anything I have experienced with the Garand, Romak3 or M14. Offhand accuracy is outstanding! A helmet at 100 meters would not stand a chance. Its a shame that no one offers a receiver scope mount for this rifle. I am finding that a great deal of negative information that I have obtained on the various web sites are bogus. Most if not all problems can be explained as poor training, gossip, and poor gas ajustment settings.

I have had a B-Square scout mount on mine 10 years. It takes care of the crappy rear sight issue also! BTW I made a crude pintle mount for mine about 10 years ago and shoot it off of Jeep (on a private 9000acre ranch) blasting 30 round clips while my friend drives. Haven't done it lately as we all quit drinkin 5 years ago!:D
