TFB Review: WORLD’S 1ST PRODUCTION Ideal Conceal IC380:

There is already a holster for the Ideal Conceal smartphone handgun on the market. The holster is designed in a way that contributes to the gun’s appearance as a smartphone.

So not an AOW?

I am not a fan of derringer capacity guns for self defense and can see a lot of reasons why this would not be a good option, but as a novelty item, I think it is pretty interesting.

I wonder how quickly will will fall out of favor as phone technology changes. Pager Pals had this issue. They disappeared when papers disappeared.

My Taurus 738 came with a belt case that looks just like my cell case, has 7 shots and I am sure is easier to shoot. Looks like a solution looking for a problem.

Wait, is this so cops can shoot people with cell phones? Or is it so Apple and Google can get control over when the electronic primers will ignite so they can render them useless when GPS sensors detect it's in a "gun free" zone?

Looks like another expensive novelty to me. If I were to get a .380, I'd save money, time, and hassle and just get one of the many tried and true offerings out there as well. If I HAD to have a derringer, a cheap Davis would probably work just as well at a much lower price point.

Well... I think it is cool that people are innovating! Two shots of .380 doesn't really do it for me though, like others have said there are a lot of choices available in reliable micro 380's. If they made one in 9mm... I can see how it would be more appealing... to me.

I think advertising this as a "Cell Phone" gun is a bad idea... that really only has much meaning to non-gun people and gives them a reason to hate the gun without knowing anything about it.

Is this the same maker that makes the "Life Card" unit? That one is an even-less-useful version firing only a single round of .22LR. I guess it could make an okay signaling device, though I'd simply use my gun.

But these are not some of those people.

I can't see any advantage to that over a 380 LCP/P3AT for times when only a minimal pistol can be concealed.

Yep, couldn't have said it any better! I would definitely take my P3AT any day of the week over this gadget gun.

Could it be appealing to the James Bond crowd, maybe? Folks who maybe aren't really gun people, but like the gadgetry aspect. I thought I'd read somewhere that it was illegal to make a gun that looks like something other than a gun, but apparently that's not the case.

I just came by to laugh at the roasting. Was not disappointed. Keep it up, guys!

So I went back and actually read the description...

The ground breaking Ideal Conceal is a carefully engineered double barreled .380 caliber people can safely carry in their purse or clipped to their side. Ingeniously designed to resemble a smartphone, yet with one click of the safety it opens and is ready to fire.

The product was designed with safety as a priority. A brand everyone can trust, a piece they can rely on, over and over.

  • Lightweight One-Piece Frame
  • Simple Design and Trouble-Free Operation
  • High Velocity, Increased accuracy
  • Hammerless construction for maximum safety.
A gun that can be safely carried? I am all for safe carrying, but I am also really interested in quick deployment and shooting. Really, safe carrying isn't what I think of when promoting a self defense firearm.

Ideal Conceal is a brand name everyone can trust? I have never even heard of them before.

Lightweight, one piece frame? I think my 1911 has a 1 piece frame. Both guns seem to have a bunch of stuff mounted on the frames.

High velocity? Compared to what, a cockroach? It is a short barreled .380. It is going to be low velocity even compared to many other .380s.

Increased Accuracy? Again, compared to what? Were they referring to last year's model? Oh wait, there wasn't a model last year.

A firearm which is made to be disguised as a non-firearm object... how is that NOT an AOW?
It has to be unfolded into the unmistakable shape of a gun to be able to fire. Still, I think the PDA case-style holsters for the Kel-Tec et al make a better setup.

This unfolded and unmistakable language is nowhere in the ATF definition of an AOW.
