The RUGER OLD ARMY Club

Here's the two that I have left. Used to have a stainless also. I modified the one on the bottom to look sort of like a Remington loading lever, and it seats the ball much easier. I dislike the way the Old Army cylinder pin bends downward when seating a ball.
This looks like it would be the makings of a great build thread.
That, or, do you make these to sell? Preferably in stainless, since my ROA is stainless.

My, my, a bunch of folks have joined the ROA club since I joined.
Has it really been that long?
Yep, It's been nearly 8 years and I still haven't shot it.

Welcome flintlock! :D

I'm in! (again)
Things happen when you least expect it.
Walked in a small shop Saturday morning not expecting to find anything BP related. This shop is mostly tacticool.
What do I spy down in the bottom corner of the way in the back display case?
TWO R.O.A.'s! Stainless fixed sight 5.5"s! Bought them for $425 each.
Serial number search shows made in 1994 on both.
That is first year production of the 5.5 correct?
One even had the original box and papers. Even has the wrench.

Wow congrats. What a deal you got there

Howdy Jaymo. Just found your posting. The ROA I modified was a "one of" project. It required a fair bit of machining to the frame, and could not be a "drop in" parts set. I'll get some pic's posted of how it operates.

Here are some pic's of the Remington Style Loading Lever that I made for one of my Old Army's many moons ago; at least 20 years ago if I recall correctly. Started out as a somewhat beat up used gun, so I decided to modify it.
Seats a ball much smoother than the original factory parts, and looks cooler too, IMHO.

I used the .44 Ruger Old Army match-grade revolver in NMLRA line matches at the nationals from 1987 till 1999, and locally since then. The .36 caliber "Old Navy" (I will probably get sued by the clothing store) was purchased about five years ago from a friend of mine.

The .44 ROA with the "Dragoon" brass grip frame was accurized by well-known NRA conventional pistol gunsmith, John Videki, and fitted with Bo-Mar sights. The Ruger "Old Navy" .36 caliber, was custom-built by Tom Ball, well-known N-SSA pistolsmith. It has a 9mm "octagon" barrel with Bo-Mar sights, and stainless steel sleeves in the cylinder chambers (see second photo). I use Hornady or cast .360 RB, c.o.w., & 15 grains of Swiss 3 FG. It belonged to Mr Shoffner who used it to win the NMLRA National Muzzle Loading Pistol Championship in 1997. Both have Herrett custom walnut grips. They each have been fired 25,000+ rounds.

I would like to join the Ruger Old Army Club by entering these two accurate revolvers.

The second photo shows the stainless steel sleeves to convert the .44 caliber to .36 caliber. The plunger has also been reduced to .36 cal. IMG_0646.jpg IMG_0649.jpg

Welcome D.Buck, those are beautiful! Your photo's are so nice. Mine pale in comparison.
Love the nice checkered grips and especially the round butt grips on the custom .36. Great workmanship. Thanks for showing these!

I hope to be in this club one day. I would love a stainless 5.5. I love my 1858's, but the ruger's are the holy grail of cap and ball revolvers. In my book anyway. I'll be back.
