686 Shooter

Great pairing you've got there! Have been thinking about getting a '51 Navy to go with my '60 Army.

New Pietta 1851 Navy

I started this thread some time ago and shortly thereafter I thought I was finished with BP and sold off my guns . However, as you all know one just does not walk away from black powder. So, I just received this Pietta Navy (36 caliber) from Cabelas. I think their color case hardening is difficult to beat. The action was very stiff but after working it 100 times it is now pretty dang smooth. I'm happy with it.

Smooth, straight grained Pietta. Love it!

PS: Just saw a show called "Gunslingers" on TV. It was about Bill Hickok and they had his Colt's Navys. Very cool program.

You must have cherry picked that pistol. Lovely! And it has the newer grip frame design as opposed to the older (pre-2015[CN]) Pietta tail design.

And (surprise!) the wedge spring protrudes from the right side of the barrel lug.

I have never seen better case colors and better wood than that on a Pietta.

The only thing better would be to put a squareback trigger guard on it. ;) :)

Just for comparison, a Pietta G&G (2015[CN]) without the tail and a Pietta 1851 Navy (2014[CM]) with the tail and a SB TG ordered from Taylors.

Good on you, sir! I am envious!

Choctaw

That's some mighty fine looking color case hardening on that '51! Same for that brass grip frame and those grips!

Great pistols, Expat_Alaska! I believe the G&G will be my next purchase.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Oh, not cherry-picked. Ordered through Cabelas. This one was just pure luck. :D

I love dickydalton's photo of his Colt Model 1860 Fluted 3rd Gen. Sitting atop that sundial I would have labelled it "Two Timeless Classics".

Post came in today and brought me my Ruschetti 1860 Army back from the Goon. Smooth is the only word to describe how it feels now. It's not a BBQ gun, rather a working gun that shows it's 36 years. The service I had done probably was more expensive than the gun new. I anticipate great service from it now for the remainder of my years. Pics:

P.S.: This is the revolver that I clocked the bucket with while said bucket was 65 yards away up a wooded hillside.

Bannockburn and Crawdad1, you make me blush. Thank you very much for those comments.
As you can see from the caps it is a shooter too. I want to send it to Mike Goon but have been enjoying shooting it too much to do that yet. I have a C-Series 1851 Colt and an Uberti Whitneyville Dragoon that Mike has done his magic to and intend for him to do this and one of my 2nd Gen. 1862 Pocket Navies. Oops. I shoulda said 686 Shooter and Crawsad1! sorry

I don't understand why more people don't shoot them. The Colts, both the 2nd and 3rd Generation, that I've shot were real tack drivers. But, most people would rather collect them and that's alright with me because I'm one of them.
