That was a fine story for a cold Saturday morning.

It would be a shame to let such an artifact leave the family.

It may have never been shot but it was played with a good bit. There's a pretty good drag mark on the cylinder. That's a shame on such a fine revolver.

I would definitely be skeptical of the never been shot claim. The Gent Sug, it was made for was alive and presumably using this gun for 8 years before his death. In those days folks didn't have plastic wire ties on their colts. The bought them to shoot and to carry. If you were going to carry it you would have practiced shooting it as well.

Not to my taste.

There is another problem. The gun was shipped "blue", which usually meant blue and color case hardening. In order to do the engraving, the engraver had to grind through the case hardening, removing a layer of steel, That left some areas showing signs of metal removal, e.g., the screws standing proud.

Is it worth $3500? With ordinary ragged Colt SAA's priced at almost that, the answer is certainly yes. But bidders will get no competition from me.

Wow, that is a really nice SAA with an interesting history. It's too bad that it is being sold out of the family.
