Regarding the references to Oleg, ya'll do know he has a Garand too, don't you? We all need to have whichever combat rifles we choose, but in calibers we can scrounge ammo for.

Regarding the list of rifles "every honest citizen should have", I opted out of those in favor of the M1 Garand (can be re-barreled to 7.62NATO) and '03A3 (which I got cheap and can also be re-barreled to 7.62NATO), and K98k (which, again, can be re-barreled to 7.62NATO; think Israeli). Any of these could be scoped. And for "folks-iness", you can't beat a deer rifle in .30-06 or .308Winchester, although I consider those equalled by .30-30 leverguns in their respective working parameters which I consider wider than they're given credit for.

Hey, the anti's want to ban them all anyway. Hey, jihadis invade my area and there's no telling how many .30-30's, among everything else, they'll be up against. The ammo sold be the case on 9-11-01 and in the days following it.

My Garand is rebarrelled to .308, but my 03A3 is still in .30-06.

Did you know that a good gunsmith can take a WW2 surplus .30 machinegun barrel, chamber it to .30-06, and, with a little work, fit it to a KAR 98 and make it look original? (I know. I have one! )

But the list still holds sir! no excuses!: you need to get busy buying rifles!
