Back on March 5th, I sent in my application to the BATFE for my C&R license. As expected, my check was promptly cashed on March 9th. They are VERY efficient at taking money. :)

I waited 4 weeks and called today to check on the status. I was transfered over to the women handling filing for Los Angeles County, CA. She is currently working on all the files processed the first week of March. I am in the next batch to be processed. It sounds like there are a lot of California applicants and renewals. Where the heck are these folks when it's time to vote!?!?!?!?!

Anyway, I'm dying to get my license. I need to order a boat load of .45 parts for my Commander so I can send it out to Tripp Research for a face life and tune up. I also want to get my order in on a CMP 1903. The wife approved both and I want it done before she changes her mind... ;)

Trying to be patient, but it's killing me!

I sent my application in on 2/10 and started waiting. As with your check, they charged my credit card right away.

I'd read on the net that the system works like this:

  • Send in application
  • Wait 60 days
  • Call
  • They process your application the day you call
  • License arrives in 4 or 5 days

I waited until 4/6 (not quite 60 days) to call and left voicemail with my name and phone number. A lady (maybe the same one as for LA) called me back later that day and told me that she had processed my application and the license would arrive in 4 or 5 days.

Once again, those friendly folks from the web were right.

It's nice to know that there's a system :banghead:.

There is no need to call, I didn't and got mine last year.......oh, probably around the 1 1/2-2 month period after I sent it in.

Use this time wisely.........save your money......your gonna need it :D

Time to learn patience....

Because the waiting is only starting. Soon you will be ordering guns and having to wait until they show up. :)

Save some money each day. Go without a pop for 1 buck, skip that pack of cigs $3, you get the point, then when it gets there you'll be able to go on a spree!

My license took about two months. Now, ordering greasy old rifles is proving to be even more difficult. Some companies won’t sell to Californians. Others ask for additional documents after I’ve sent them the money. Very frustrating …

Jay, if you want to pick something up from out of state it makes things helpful. You also get a nice discount from many vendors; Brownells, Midway, etc. It also satisfies part of your CMP requirement to purchase.

If you do a search, you'll come up with all the info you need to get the process started.

Jay, I'm a NY C&R FFL. It's totally worth it! I live right on the border with PA too, but you really can't beat the deals that aimsurplus.com and others have here and there and having those guns shipped straight to your door. I've never used my C&R at a gun show or gun shop, so far. Doesn't apply for pistols in NY.

Jay,

Go here and figure out which field office covers your area. Call them, and they will mail you a packet with everything you need (except the $30 application fee) to apply.

It takes about 4 months for an 01 FFL, plus zoning review, interview with BATF. 2 months for your 03 is a cake walk.

Too bad you don't have your C&R yet...I bet all the SKS's and Nagants will be gone by the time it arrives :neener:

Congrats...and use the wait time to start $aving up...you'll need it!
