These Hogues are going to make me scream!!! Can someone help?

Please help me. I decided to try to the Hogue rubber grips on my SP101 ---- AGAIN.

I managed to get them seated and screwed down. But there's a problem. They won't seat properly without pushing the hammer rotating assembly pin out of its groove on the right side of the frame. Something inside the grip is not allowing it to slide over that little flat piece that sits flush with the frame.

I checked for extra rubber inside the grip but there is nothing that looks out of place. I called Hogue but the girl who answered was not knowledgeable enough to help me with the problem.

Anyone have any ideas?? How do I get these damn things to fit?

I bought some Hogue grips for my taurus...talk about frustrating. I think I ended up throwing them away. When I put them on it left a gap and simply did not fit. They claimed to fit this gun but no dice. :cuss:

I know that this will not help you but I had the exact same problem when putting Hogues on my SP101. I finally handed everything over to my very handy friend and he got them on there...somehow.

I called Hogue, and the girl who answered told me to call Universal's handy friend.

:(

I called the service number that came with my grips. They weren't in at the time and for some reason didn't manage to return my phone call. I guess it wasn't important enough to them. I mostly try to avoid hogue now. After my third attempt at putting the grip on I think I just threw it away.

You would think a guy who can set up an airport weather station could put a piece of rubber on a piece of steel but apparently not.

They are definitely a bear to put on. I coated the inside with gun oil after much frustration, and finally got them to go all the way, only to find they don't fit my Taurus quite right - there's a gap between the handstrap and the rubber :banghead: and the retaining pin fell out somewhere in the process :banghead: :banghead: More trouble than they're worth I'm afraid.

Sorry to hear about your problem. That is frustrating. I've never had a problem with Hogue on my S&W. But Pachmyr grips have been purchased and returned more than once. I hate 'em.

I had a problem putting some Hogues on my S&W 642. In fact I had two separate pairs not fit right. I wanted to replace my hard rubber boot grips that the 642 comes with with the Hogues but it was too much work for me. I hacked at them and I did everything I could to ge them to fit but for some reason, never got them right. I felt like a fool because all my other Hogues had gone on with no problems.

I don't know what to tell ya. I will still buy Hogues as they are the best rubber grip you can get but every once in a while, it seems they just will not work. I am sure other grips are the same, it is not easy making one size of grips to fit 100K guns. There must be some slight size changes or design changes that may affect how the grips fit. Hogue is a pretty good company and there is no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water. Just return them and move on. What you might try is, buy your grips at a gunshop or gunshow and have them put them on for you. Most people will be more than happy to do this for you for free if you are nice. People like to help out. If they can't get them to work, you won't have to pay. That is what I would do at this point.

I've had the same problem trying to put a set of Hogue's on a 3 inch SP101. I try and try then put them away for awhile and eventually try again thinking I'll do something different. They always stop just a little short of going on all the way and I can't figure out what's preventing them from seating properly. A lost cause, I think.
