this is an update on my LB 1911 heavyweight monolith.

it had failures to eject. i had sent it back to Les Baer and while there, had them hard chrome it. I've taken it to the range for 200 or so rounds before and now again for another 150 rds and so far no hiccups with 230 rn and 200 gr swcs. full and moderate loads.

i also wanted to see if the flgr i installed will cause any issues(it will make reassembling the gun easier... i had dinged the end of the dustcover in the process before. no problems.

also found my 200 gr swc sns powder coated with 5 gr bullseye was a good enough load for me.

this was my best 25 yrd target offhand either 4 or 5 mags , 32 or 40 rds. 200 gr swcs. there was one round that didn't make it onto the paper. 20181212_154448-2016x980.jpg

That's a BEAST! Very nice. And great offhand shooting at 25yds.

What's a flgr?
Full length guide rod. hard fit 1911 usually get broken down by taking out the slide stop first. in reassembling you grab the spring and guide rod as you carefully engage the rails. not a problem on 1911with a normal dustcover but with a full length dust cover you have to lay the slide upside down . keep spring in place with your fingers and then transitition to using the dustcover to keep it in place while carefully engaging the rails. this has resulted in the guide rod flying off 2 or three times. once i dinged up the edge of the dustcover as something slipped. it's usually nothing so problematic but easier to have a flgr keep the spring straight and in place instead.

i was wondering if it will affect accuracy or function since it's from a different brand. apparently not.

i actually tried the same flgr early on and had the same thought,( maybe changing it will affect accuracy). i then dinged the dustcover and still used the same standard guide. now that it's refinished i don't want a repeat so I'm using a full length guide. the guide didn't have the serial number etched so i don't think it was fitted to the gun.

Got it. I'm not a 1911 guy, though I do own one and it has a flgr. SR1911-10; the flgr cover has a tiny hole drilled out to insert a tiny wire/ tool to hold the spring compressed for disassembly. I've read comments from 1911 "purists" who seem to detest the flgr. Works OK for me.:D

I have a regular (non-heavy weight) Baer Monolith. It is the most accurate gun I've owned and I've owned many.

Both my PII and Monolith are never going anywhere.

Edit:

Sorry this was an old post.
