I am seriously considering a Marlin 1894CB in .357 for Cowboy Action. I looked at one the other day that seemed all right. A friend is going to help me slick it up a bit. I decided I wanted an American made rifle, that is why I am considering one.

Does anyone have any experience with the latest batch of new Marlins?

Well, I guess I can answer my own question in a few days. I went ahead and bought a Marlin 1894CB .357 / .38 lever action rifle yesterday. I paid $899.00 plus tax and fees. I pick it up on 3/19.

I will post a report after I shoot it.

I choke a little bit on the price of 1894s these days, especially when the 336 is still a sub-$400 rifle, but it is what it is, and the imported Brazilian guns aren't that much cheaper.

I don't personally own any Marlins newer than about 2003 mfr., but the one's I've handled seemed fine, albeit some of them lacking a bit in finish quality compared to JM critters. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new one if I wanted it and the price was fair. But I am kind of a Marlin whore, love side eject and the tighter actions.

My brothers in 44 mag works just fine, I prefer my Henry but that’s just personal preference. We use them for deer hunting together, hasn’t let him down yet. The action on mine is slicker but I’ve also had it longer and shot it a lot more.
