thinking of 3 1911s

1. Dan Wesson Pointman Major Stainless. Seems to have everything I want. But unfortunately it has the front serrations on the slide which I don't like.

2. Springfield stainless Mil-Spec. I love the look of this one, but it lacks the features.

3. Kimber Custom II Stainless. Much like the Dan Wesson.

Any thoughts on each one or any comparison would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you'd have a good threesome.

I like Springfields and don't think you could really go wrong with the MilSpec. You could always have it customized a bit down the road if you wanted.

Dan Wessons seem very impressive though I've never actually shot one. Yet.

Kimbers are a good value if you don't have a problem with the Series II safety. I've owned two and have never had a failure of any sort out of either of them.

Between the Kimber and the Dan Wesson, I would choose the Dan Wesson. From what I've heard so far, they are producing a good pistol, and Kimber seems to have been questionable lately as far as the quality of their internal parts and the reliability of their firing pin safety.

If you choose the Sprinfield, it may take some work to get it just how you want it, but in my opinion, that is part of the fun of owning a 1911.

Due to my dealing's with Springfield, I will would have to rule them out.
I felt the trigger on about every Dan Wesson they had at the Shot Show and was disapointed with the trigger pull and feel of all of them. Being at a show like that you would think they would be the best of the best.
As for Kimber they were sweet guns when they hit the market and now the price's have gone up and quailty has gone down. I have simply heard too many people say they have had trouble with them to get one now.
Now back to Springfield I was more impressed with them then the others you listed as the show and the price and lifetime warrenty. I had the compact 9mm nice gun would not cycle +p ammo called them and pointed out that it was in the book with the gun but nowhere on the web page when I researched it. If I knew this before hand I would have not bought it. They said in "we did nothing wrong we don't have to list it on the web page" and I said good I will never buy another. Either will most of my friends.
I would look into the STI Trojon its the best quality for the price 1911 production guh I have felt to date.

Just got a Kimber TLE last month and I love it. With the Kimbers, though, if you have a problem with feeding, look at the mag first. This company has a reputation for putting out super quality guns with magazines that are amazingly poor quality. I outfitted mine with Wilson mags from the start and no problems.

I would go with the Dan Wesson.
Specifically the Razorback, the 10mm.

The others are good also.

I've had good luck with Kimber, but wouldn't denigrate DW or
SA.

For this market niche, I'd' work the best deal, they're all good pistols.

Lets just say I was more than disappointed with their service dept., don't get me wrong they were nice till I got to the person who had the power to replace or exchange or fix my pistol. The first words out of her mouth were "we do not have to list the gun will not feed +p ammo, its not our fault". Not the words I want to hear from anyone I deal with. They said they would fix it no charge for me if I was LE other wise in about 6 months a new guide rod set up would be out and I could buy it. All they had to do was send me the new set up which would be about $45 bucks free of charge to make my gun work with all ammo and I would have been happy . When I worked behind a gun counter I talked with STI, SVI, Kimber, Colt, Sig, Glock, Beretta and Taurus that I remember and sent guns back to all of them for various things. I never remember anyone saying "its not our fault" most said if its not working send it back and we will fix it. The people at the gun club have not had problems with thier Springfields and I like the guns but due to the service people I talked to I will not buy any more of them .
