as stated before, this might be stupid, but Im fairly new(ish) to guns, Ive bought a 1942 mosin nagant, and I love it in its current condition, but Id like to add a scope, but I dont want to do something to where it cant be taken back to stock, so, there are a couple of options/questions

1. is there a way to add a scope in place if the rear sights? maybe a bracket that I could make to fit in where the adjustable part of the rear sight would go that I could attach a scope to that without altering the gun?

2. (this is where it might get silly) would it be possible to get an after market stock and make a bracket to attach the scope to the stock? or would that never hold zero? yea it would look like crap, but it would serve my purpose

If there is a good rear-sight replacement scope mount for a Mosin (and I can't say I'm sure there is) S&K scope mounts are well-respected around here. If I can ever get the money together I'm getting one for my Czech VZ-24 8mm Mauser...

if your really concerned about it being authentic just look around for an original russian scope mount, they can be slightly modified to take modern scopes and it still looks traditional.

There are many ways to scope a Mosin, but mounting a scope to the stock is never a good idea. Reason being that the action is not precisely held in the stock and may shift very slightly from shot to shot. It may not be apparent, but even 1/60th of one degree (one minute of arc, or MOA) will change the bullet impact by roughly 1 inch at 100yd. This is why sights are best solidly mounted to the barrel and/or receiver.
