Thoughts about whether this becomes reality?

http://ilga.gov/legislation/fulltex...E5x7zqhKEh3tGL5Ef3z3yV31gjbzHjpAAFjEZHVA1Zo1A

Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Makes it unlawful for any person to knowingly possess an assault weapon 300 days after the effective date of the amendatory Act, except possession of weapons registered with the Department of State Police in the time provided. Provides exemptions and penalties. Effective immediately.

If the IL pattern is followed, it will be amended so as not to ban ALL box mag fed shoulder arms---including the usually exempted Mini14 (apparently Bill Ruger's "Deal with the Devil" has expired in IL as it would be banned by name). If the bill is watered down at all this will be called a "compromise" despite the fact that it will still be a one-sided action and the RKBA crowd will gain nothing. I am worried on this go-around as the antis have a virtual lock on the entire process in Illinois and it is quite possible it could sale on through as introduced.

The Mini 14 is listed as one of the banned guns as is my Kel Tec Sub 2000 and Hi Point carbine, among many others. I was already planning on giving those to my oldest son, who's moving to Wisconsin when he gets married in May, so he'll take them with him whether this passes or not.

I fully expect it to pass, given Democratic majorities in both houses and Pritzker in the governor's office. They already rammed through a bill requiring FFLs in Illinois to also be licensed by the state with a bunch of additional requirements and costs to kill small business owners. There's a small chance that some downstate Democrats might be peeled off due to their constituencies and wanting to be reelected, but I have a hard time believing it will be enough to matter.

My hope for a silver lining is that when it goes get passed, it gets challenged and makes it to the Supreme Court with its current makeup. I feel like with our current court, we might have a chance at a precedent setting decision that will effectively kill AWB's. Might be a pipe dream, but that's my hope.

As an aside, I went and bought a Ruger PC 9 today....just in case. We had a pistol caliber niche that needed filling. Also, I wonder out loud if a person might still be able to side-step an AWB by buying a shorty rifle under IL's rather odd allowance of SBRs for C&R and re-enactors....yes it would be a title 2 NFA gun, but could that work as a doomsday option for us stuck behind the lines in this hellhole?

Well, registration is an option if you already have one. While I'm sure there will be plenty of non-compliance, that won't be an option for me given my line of work and not wanting to risk losing my right to own all my firearms by not registering one.

Might as well sell them as register them. Registration is the first step towards confiscation and then you get no compensation, or a token amount at best.

PC 9 or PCC?

The PC 9 is the older one.

"Thoughts"? None good or printable !! :fire:

This was expected once the elections results were announced. I'd be surprised if it didn't pass.

Ditto !

The problem is the length of time required to GET to the SC - and IF they take the case ! How many will lose their guns and/or their rights BEFORE it gets to the SC?!? Better to do everything we can to stop it now. I know, that is an extremely long shot but we have to try.
AND, if the politicians thought the people outflow has been bad before, they ain't seen nuthin' yet !!

I would hope that IF it passes and gets signs some court would stay implementation of the bill until it can be adjudicated.

Gun owners (and others who care about freedom) have really got to start paying attention. This is a straight up gun grab, stop trying to think about work arounds or does this affect "me", THEY want ALL your guns, its the slippery slope approach, little by little, yes they want your $140K Perazzi. IL is the most corrupt State in the Union and a leading Progressive strong hold. If you want to know how the Nazis came to power, we are living in those times. This isn't your daddy's gun control, EVIL is at our door steps.

registration=confiscation (don't kid yourself)

The progressives have just introduced a bill to monitor who buys ammo online (in IL) and maintain a database with ISP. They want to know who is preparing. Tyranny is here.

Every gun owner here should be calling their representatives and filling out witness slips. A good place to focus is on representatives outside the Chicago area, as those tend to be red parts of the state. Those reps need to know they'll lose their seats if they go along with this.

Guys, we are in deep sh+t here in Il. Way too many have sat idly by watching and waiting. We have probably 90% red counties and have let the Chicago/ESL libs overrun the general assembly. I'm a Benefactor NRA member, ISRA member and Chairman of the Board of our sportsmen's club and I have never been more afraid for my rights. Red flag, assault, social media, all being aimed at disarming us. If you don't join, donate and support the resistance....you are part of the problem.

These assorted P.o.S. legislation are not yet at the point where we can file witness slips. We are waiting for the day we can file.

Chicago/ESL?? ESL = East St. Louis?

First off, I am not familiar with Illinois FOID in any way shape or form but I am curious. Should someone start a shooting club in a town just on the Indiana side of the border that provided firearm storage and subject of Illinois where to store a piece that was later banned would that subject still be required to turn in the firearm or be subject to criminal charge?

I'm guessing yes, as the owner of the firearm is an Illinois resident and the issue is ownership, not the physical location of the firearm. I don't beleive the legislation addresses this.

I think it bans possession, not ownership. It says you can't have them here. Lots of people talking about storing them out of state at friends/relatives/vacation homes and such.

I stand corrected. It does refer to possession. What OfficersWife referred to may be legal.

I have read the current bill as filed. If you read it closely, you will find that it bans ALL semi-automatic rifles and some semi-automatic pistols. Any rifle that can accept a magazine with a capacity of more than 10 rounds is banned. Also any rifle that has a fixed magazine that hold more than 10 rounds is also banned. Under this bill, the Ruger 10/22 and the Marlin 60 would be banned. The only way you could legally keep them is to register them with the State Police.
There is no doubt the bill will eventually pass in this state. Just hope it gets modified extensively before passage. The state is broke. Don't know how the state police will get the money or manpower to manage everything this bill throws in their lap.
