Thoughts on Illinois proposed assault weapons legislation ?

I have read the current bill as filed. If you read it closely, you will find that it bans ALL semi-automatic rifles and some semi-automatic pistols. Any rifle that can accept a magazine with a capacity of more than 10 rounds is banned. Also any rifle that has a fixed magazine that hold more than 10 rounds is also banned. Under this bill, the Ruger 10/22 and the Marlin 60 would be banned. The only way you could legally keep them is to register them with the State Police.
There is no doubt the bill will eventually pass in this state. Just hope it gets modified extensively before passage. The state is broke. Don't know how the state police will get the money or manpower to manage everything this bill throws in their lap.

Steve51 - the Marlin 60 may NOT be banned as the proposal says "accept magazines" and the tubular magazine of the 60 is unchangeable. I may be wrong but it is something to consider. I have a 10/22 as well as several of the plastic Ram-Line magazines that hold 30 or 50 rounds. Unless they make an exception for rimfires (unlikely with these politicians :fire:), the 10/22 will be banned.
If these "donkeys" thought the outflow from Ill-annoy has been bad so far, they ain't seen nuthin' yet !!

I am curious as to where my C&R Liscense fits in this mess. I doubt that there is a Democrat in Illinois that has any idea what it is or that it exists. Not sure what I will do if it passes. If I register them I will bet a lot of money that consfiscation will be the next step. My understanding is that in states where similar laws have passed there has been large numbers of guns that were never registered and where they were registered and they banned them later no one has had the balls to go after them yet. My istinct says don't register, the conservative in me says to register because I don't want to go to jail. This also would cause problems for my family as to what to do with them after my death.

Welcome to my world. I looked over the bill. Looks like they learned from other bills like the unsafe act in NY. Most agree that the participation rate in NY was about 1 to 2 percent. I would think that IL participation would be about hte same.

Some Illinois counties have adopted the criteria that the county is a "Gun Sanctuary County" because the state of Illinois is adopting gun laws that are not constitutional.
The Williamson county states attorney stated at a recent town hall that he would not prosecute any "gun ban" cases in Williamson county. I would assume that some states attorney's in other sanctuary counties will follow suit.

Unfortunately, St. Clair county is not one of those. That may be because the former states attorney there ran against Bost (and lost) and has now been appointed to head the ISP by "Jabba". Oddly enough, Madison county, just north of St. Clair IS a sanctuary county.

I am in Florida and I am watching this unfold with interest. In a few years something similar could happen here.
My stratify since I am assuming the worst is to hang on to my SKS and Garand since their mag capacities are fixed at 10 and 8 rounds. If registration of detachable magazine fed guns is allowed, then register those that are traceable to me. The others that are not traceable get put far away until the day comes that they are needed. Also learn to become proficient with tube fed guns like shotguns and lever actions rifles. If a 30-30 or bolt action mauser is all that I am allowed to have, all is not lost for sure. I would still be well armed. I can also use a double action revolver quite well

EVERY MAN should know how to use a double action revolver well. Or a shotgun or lever action rifle. I can't even imagine growing up and never having shot anything but a Glock or an AR. I lived in Illinois for 13 years and will never go back - or even through it. I'll gladly drive hundreds of miles to go around it now. I never saw a State as corrupt as Illinois.

I can't help but wonder how the politicians of Illinois would react if somebody were to import A De Lisle carbine into their state... I mean it's a bolt action so not one on the fearsome "automatics" and only has a 7 round magazine for it's 45 ACP cartridge. Yet it's class III status would have to raise eyebrows.

Unfortunately, Il still forbids any class III stuff.
