Sorry - he checked it with a magnet and it must be the one with anodized brass hardware!

Have debated on sending it back to Colt to have them restore it. But, I just can’t. I think some guns should just be left alone. It earned its scars and blemishes. It will never breathe fire again. But I’m sure it spoke loud and with authority in its day. Now it resides in that box. Comes out from time to time. A life of well earned comfort. But there is something special you feel when you hold it in your hands and look down those sights.

I don’t believe I would restore the revolver either. As you say, it’s a family heirloom and has come to your care honestly. I can also see the argument against shooting it. I would shoot it just to be certain that everything is in perfect working order, and truly, if I had the slightest doubt that it was the case I would just put it up on the shelf. I’ve shot some of the original guns but none were family guns and none would potentially lose a great deal of value either barring a catastrophe...
