Hey guys....Would it be safe to assume that the Tikka T3X Varmint .223 has the same barrel as the Tikka T3X Super Varmint .223? A heavy 23.7" barrel? The Super Varmint comes with a cool looking stock, cerakote finish, a 2-stage trigger, and built in picatinny rail, all of which I would like to have but not sure I want to wait for a year to get one. I can get the "Varmint" right away from a LGS and have it ready to shoot for my next p-dog shoot. If someone has knowledge of the barrel issue, it would help me make my decision. Thanks for your help.

As far as I know the Tikka barrels are all the same, they dont grade them differently. Ive never seen one shoot larger than MOA, and most could be kept under .75 if the shooter could deal with the recoil in a relatively light rifle....Most were relatively large chamberings.

Ill second @ms6852 If you WANT a Super V, order the Super V and use something else for this year, unless your short a rifle and NEED that gun for your next shoot.

Yes, the same barrel is the same in length, contour, etc. it’s different in that the Super Varmint barrel is threaded. Besides that, the Super Varmint has a fancy bolt, is Cerakoted & the aforementioned 2-stage trigger. If those items(and the year long wait) are worth the $500 price hike to you, go for it. If I were a Tikka guy, between the two, I’d go for the standard Varmint.

I have a CTR, it has a heavier barrel than my standard T3. Just looking at the photos on their website the Super Varmint has a threaded barrel that "APPEARS" to be the same diameter as my CTR. But I cannot confirm that. They don't give a good description. At least none that I can find.

The Varmint rifle does not appear to be threaded. But I can't tell if it is a larger diameter, but it "APPEARS" that it does.

FWIW I think you'll be happy either way. In addition to the 308 CTR I have T3's in 308 and 6.5 CM. The 6.5 with the standard barrel outshoots all of them. The standard T3 in 308 equals the heavier CTR for accuracy but is almost 2 lbs lighter.

The CTR appears to be quite similar to the newly minted "Super Varmint". I searched for an available CTR .223 with a 24" barrel and found a lefty model. Otherwise it looks like a good option. There are lots of 20" barrel 6.5CMs on GunBroker, but .223s are rare. I appreciate the encouragement to wait for what I really want. I've been waiting for over a year for a Bergara B-14R 17HMR. Looks like I'll be in for another wait on the Tikka, which I ordered 2 months ago. Some guys have said the Tikka will be a long wait. In the meantime, I have a very accurate Rem 700 .223 that does the job and 2 other 17HMRs ready for my p-doggin' shoot in two weeks.
