So I just bought a Tikka T3X Lite Stainless in 7mm-08.

I have noticed that the magazine that came with the rifle will only allow a standard COL round to be loaded, even though the rifle has a long action. The magazine has a spacer built into the rear of it which limits the OAL of the round.

Question?

If I order a .270win magazine will it work with a 7mm-08 case and let me load my bullets out longer?

I wonder if this is a part that can be swapped out? Can you buy a Tikka bolt stop for a long action round that will fit?

This is a relatively easy fix if you are all handy with tools. I have a stainless 7mm-08 Tikka T3 (that I love) and I wanted to load 162 ELD-X and 168 Bergers near the lands. So I got out my dremel tool and file and went to work. The bolt stop mod couldn't be much easier. I put the bolt stop in my workbench vise and then just laid the mill bastard file on it and filed away enough of the tab to make it a "medium" length action. That took like 3 minutes tops.

Then I pulled apart the magazine, and ground out the tabs at the back and removed the spacer. I then glued in a thinner spacer I made out of some plastic I had laying around. That whole project took about 15 minutes. Now I have a "medium action" Tikka 7mm-08 that I can load to 3.00" with no issues and it cycles great.
