Yeah, I know, a malapropism.
Planning for the first in a century rifle deer hunt in Illinois with my two boys as the commie state legalized straight wall center fire single shot rifles for deer as of 1/1/23. Taking Childbride to therapy the other day I managed to find a patch of black ice and fall on my replaced knee (2019). Stabbing pain. Hardly put weight on it. X-Ray today didn't show anything broken or displaced.
I've resigned myself to watching from the sidelines this year but, if I greet relief, I will drive down to our land and maybe sit on the back porch of the cabin with one of the single shots and hope a slick head wanders by.
At 78, disappointment ain't no big deal. The next life won't have any.

I went to the Dr today after feeling pretty crappy for two weeks...
Covid.
I quarantined the rest of the day in the cab of my semi hauling corn to town.

I haven't even started work yet on Mt. 45-70 loads.
All I've done on the 45-70 and 44 M is dig out old loaded cartridges, mount and bore sight scope and red dot. Henry is good to go. Get well and I pray it isn't long covid. I have a good friend who is still suffering after three months.

Sorry to hear you caught the covid AF. Wife and I caught the rona just before Christmas.
Hope yours stays just in the "crappy" stage. Ours was more of a bad cold version but I did have a couple days of fever.

Well, at least you went to the Dr., AF. SWMBO and I had what we figure was RSV for about a week, we just powered through it. I have to wear a mask at work anyway, (when near patients; dispensing, fitting, etc.) so no big deal. Get better! You too, PapaG!

Hope you are on the mend

It feels so weird being the same age as old people.
I didn't attend my most recent HS reunion. When I saw a photo of attendees on social media, I thought "Who are all those old people?" My FIL is in his mid-70s and says there is no way he would ever move to FL - "too many old people."

@PapaG , I feel your pain.... literally. One knee in a brace (two procedures), other almost as bad. Spine fusion recently. Just completed radiaton treatments for prostate cancer. And I'm a decade younger. Sounds like you've done well so far.

I was hoping to have this bad knee replaced before the boat is done, but that ain't happening.

Still can shoot, though.

We could use a separate forum just for the getting old stuff.
I just got my Medicare card but my grandfather is my role model. He worked until he was 84. He was in a bad car crash with a drunk driver in his early 60s and busted up terrible. Limped the rest of his life but never stopped moving and never complained.
He went deer hunting when still healing with a broken pelvis and leg in a cast after a second surgery and shot a nice buck with his leg propped up on a log. He also pheasant hunted with us but didn’t walk the fields just drove the truck and posted the ends for us.
I still climb trees to bowhunt even with one new knee. I cut and split wood for 3 hours yesterday and yeah I feel it this morning but I’ll keep plugging away like grandpa until I can’t.

Yeah. I know the pain. I am 75. I was doing pretty good until I crashed a motorcycle 2 years ago. Had surgery on both shoulders since. I thought it would be great to hunt this year but had a heart attack just before deer season. On top of that I took a Nitro pill at home and got up to get something and collapsed in a doorway. Banged my head and twisted my knee. I feel much better and I am in therapy for my heart. They don't want me doing much of anything outdoors in this Minnesota winter. I feel fine though. I hope nothing else happens before hunting next year.

Drove down to my farm/deer factory Sat to hang with my son and nephews. They had son's Friday deer gutted and hanging in the pole barn. I could hardly walk due to bad knees, even the new one. Hour and a half watching game camera stills and videos. Deer, deer, deer. Family of five seen at every location. Coon, rabbit, forkies, spikes, our resident big bobcat, 'yotes, and a turkey. Best hundred K I ever spent. Cost per deer has gone from $50K each to minimal lately. 2005 to date, at least 50 plus what the neighbor poached. And, it is worth at least $225K todsy.
I bought my two boys a legacy ranch.
Not bragging. Extremely lucky and thankful. If I never drop the hammer again, I'll still have fun.
