I think it was CVA that made a .44 copy of these recently, but Bob Tingle of Shelbyville, back home in Indiana, used to make .40 in-line single shots that vaguely resembled the profile of Remington 1858s. Anyone have any experience with them?

I ran across one yesterday that had a superlight trigger that would allow push-off to the half-cock notch - the store is fixing that issue, but I was pretty excited about maybe picking the gun up, just to fuss with. It had the appropriate Tingle marks, but I recall it had a steel frame instead of the brass ones I know I've seen before. Might be a fun Hoosier "little brother" to the T/C .54 Scout pistol I have. :)

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with the breed?

I have two of the Palmetto clones of tingles. 35 cal and 44 cal. They have Morini style target grips. They are pretty fair shooters. A bit different from the CVA prospector. They have a wooden forarm under the barrel and the barrel is held in place by a cross pin that screws into place.

Thanks, zs: I'm not sure whether it's the simplicity of the thing (I like the Scout pistol I have for that reason) or the fact that it was small-batch made in Indiana, but it really keeps bouncing around my head. I'm going to have to remember to call the store this morning to see how the push-off repairs are going and what "my" price might be. Would you happen to have any advice on what a reasonable price might be for one of the originals in decent working condition?

The best bet on a real tingle value is to search some of the auction sites for past prices. As I recall one came up on a used gun dealer's site last fall and the asking price was around $750. I think Dixie actually offerred the tingles in their catalogue back around 1975 and before. I have my old Dixie Cats, just don't know where offhand.

I have been watching for a TC Scout. wanted one when they first came out but couldn't justify the expense. They still bring a about as much as new.

The newer versions from both TC and traditions use 209 primers. I'd rather have something that uses perc caps.

Thanks, amigo. :) I looked for my .54 Scout pistol for years until I tripped over this one just before the New Year for . . . get this, $90. (I'm a very happy man.)

I've done the search thing on all the auction sites - the problem is finding a comparable. Good to hear your news about the one that you saw - I just saw an archived listing of one in that price range as well. I talked to the dealer just now, and the one that I saw has been repaired. I may need to go over there with a credit card . . .
