To moon clip or not?

Deed it do. I have seen many 9mms FIRED from .40 barrels, and a few attempts to CHAMBER a .40 in a 9mm barrel. I guess if the .40 somehow went off with just the nose of the bullet pushing into the 9mm chamber, it would be an Energetic Event.

And then there was the guy on Benos who was building up a real Frankengun. As I recall a G35 with breechface widened and .45 ACP barrel cut to fit. Intended to be loaded with short OAL ACPs out of a GAP magazine. I don't think he ever finished it or if he did, not worth writing about.

I guess if you thought there was a problem you could always just turn .005" out of 45 ACP brass and have the same ease of mooning/demooning. I have shot too many thousands of them to revert backwards though.

Since I am not a top flite REV-E competitor, I will just keep on using .45 ACP for my occasional foray into revolver shooting. The tools for clipping and declipping are adequate for my volume.

Anecdote:
Many years ago, even before my time, but interesting to read about; there was a guy who had a .38 Super but was tired of paying for ammo or even components in a sea of surplus .45s. So he put a .45 barrel in his .38 gun and turned down the heads of a couple of hundred .45 cases to fit the .38 breechface, a LOT of rebate. This let him use .45 bullets and large primers which were then available very cheaply from NRA/DCM.

I must be the exception because I love moon clips and the S&W 625 is my favorite revolver in my collection for that reason. Cheap, easy, and quick to load. I have dozens of them.

Moon clips = cheapest 'magazines' on the market

I just laugh when people consider it an issue. If it is, buy any other revolver and shoot .38, .41, .44 or whatever.
