Tool for finding ammo... feedback request.

a column stating whether it is in stock or not would be nice. Harder to find ammo, say like .32 H&R mag is "out of stock" all over the place... it'd be nice not to waste my time if I can see that before hand.

scythefwd,

We at AmmoSeek.com go to great lengths to only include items that are IN STOCK and available for shipping. I just did a search for 32 H&R Mag and got 7 results at 4 different retailers who all have it in stock (according to their web sites). Here's the direct link:

http://ammoseek.com/?gun=handgun&cal=9

Our database is updated anywhere between 4 and 24 times a day, so if you notice something in our search results that's out of stock, it's possible that it went out of stock since we last crawled that retailer, so check again in 6 hours. If it still comes up after that, please notify us so we can look into the problem. We agree that it's pointless to tell you about products that aren't available!

Thanks scythefwd...

When you have a moment, could you give us some specific examples of ammo being out of stock that we list in our search results? Just sending us a few of the URL's would work.

We'd like to fix it if we can, but without knowing specifics it's difficult to know what to fix.

Thanks!

-Marc

Ammoseek,
I looked at your site but I noticed the .375 Winchester round is not available for the search. Granted this is not a very popular round, but is to me...:D

Otherwise, it functions very well. Bookmarked.

OnEdit: Oops!! Sorry. I found it. There were sooooo many .375 calibers I went right past it.

You should really get shipping in there. Even approximate shipping would make a big difference. "Ammoman is always $0, and everybody else just use the UPS ground rate" is good enough. You can calculate it yourself, by going to this page of UPS', and downloading a rate sheet for the warehouse of every dealer. Just look up the user's zip code in all the rate sheets, and wham.

That should give a shipping estimate that in the cases of larger UPS accounts is more then actual. If you use the base rates at their system you're about 35% over what we pay, same with Fedex's rate calculators, we all have our different discounts etc... Indeed these wildly fluctuating rates are why we moved to fixed rate shipping for customers ease.

Jay,

Thanks for your input. Actually I looked into using UPS's rate calculators to estimate shipping charges, but I found that the number quoted by UPS (based on source and destination zip codes) can be as much as 70% above or below the actual price quoted by the retailer (for the ones that I checked). I simply wasn't comfortable for that level of "estimate" -- it's more like a wild guess.

Given that this feature is requested so much, I may still try to factor in some type of shipping estimate, but it will likely be alongside the actual price of the items, so the results can be sorted by either price...
