Top Shot - Season 3

No mentione of any "active ... competitive shooting". Dustin validated this in an interview with the Lufkin Daily News.

Despite not actively participating in competitive shooting, Dustin may just be the single-best all-around marksman from all three seasons. In my mind, Dustin is the consummate "Bubba Jethro" (he hails from a town of fewer than 650 people in Texas) and probably one of the best-prepared Top Shot competitors to date.

I'll give you that. However, Dustin isn't a standard Bubba Jethro, he's the king Bubba Jethro. He's not just a Christian Camp counselor, he's pretty much the owner (I think his family owns a lot of land). If you watch his audition video, he literally has hundreds of acres of land that he sets up for his private range. 750 yard range in my backyard and only working 4 months of the year? Yeah, I would hope to be a pretty good shot too if I had access to that. :D

Just watched the last episode - good lord. What a baby.

I hope they take down Jake's nomination target. IMO nailing it to the wall should be reserved for competitors, not people that don't want to compete.

If Jake wanted to win, I could tolerate his antics. Turns out, he was afraid to lose.

I taught physics at a major university, very competitive students. After the first week, one student asked me to sign their "drop" card. I asked why and they said they had a straight A grade average and didn't want to ruin it. I signed it thinking, how useless such a person would be. A "perfect" record from quiting anything that might be a challenge. That's close to cowardice.

I respect a person who gives their all to a challenge. Losing can have far less effect on a person than the realization they have the strength to fight a hard fight. That's very empowering.

Jake needs to take a good look at himself.

Red River Ray is one of the best Cowboy Action Shooters in the country. In one of his posts he said, "You can't win if you are afraid to lose."

That keeps going through my head when I shoot a match. Sounds like Jake never learned that lesson.

Just one minor point about Jake and how guys are saying he doesn't seem like the typical SEAL. He was a naval officer, not enlisted. His resume said he "commanded a SEAL unit", not that he went through the entire/same training course that the actual operators do.

Those of us who have served in the enlisted/NCO ranks know plenty of officers in our chain of command who might wear the tab/badge but didn't go through the exact same training as the NCO's who worked their way up. I am not familiar with the navy's officer training program, but I seriously doubt they had officers out in the mud and surf doing the same training alongside the enlisted SEAL candidates.

I might be wrong, so please correct me if I am.

J-bar: You're spot on... he lost so much respect for not having at least tried. Wayne Gretzky said, "You miss 100% of the shots you never take"

What I don't like is that now Jake and Mike have taken their feud outside the bounds of the show - Mike with his "Jake" targets, and Jake's puffed up angry reaction to same.
They have every right to be beefin' inside and outside the show, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm willing to bet that in the not too distant future that Jake will be saying that he is bipolar or that he was off his meds at the time, or that there was some(made up) pressing need for him to be home...if that were true they would have broadcast it like the time when the guy left to be with his pregnant wife or when the girl from last season left to be with her dying father. Some kind of excuse will be coming from him...he is working on it right now.

Jake cannot take responsibility for ANY of his shortcomings or failures. He deflects, distracts, and denies anything that could chink his armor. Something will come out where he is trying to paint himself as a victim or misunderstood etc. Mark my words. ;)

SEAL officers go through the same exact training as enlisted

Just out of curiosity, where has Jake responded to the targets in a negative way? There can't be too much negativity between them considering on multiple occasions while watching the show at the sports bar with the locals, Mike has had Jake on the phone to offer his comments on the show. Strange thing to do if they hate each other.

My money's on PTSD as the excuse.

I don't car what his excuse is, he doesn't have any excuse to act the way he did.

and he better not use the damn race card........

That's the only thing he could do to make him look like a bigger loser.

[QUOTESEAL officers go through the same exact training as enlisted ][/QUOTE]

Jake made the comment that he was not familiar with the 1911 platform? I was under the impression that Seals trained with all weapons. ?????

I got an interview with Phil Morden following his elimination. It's pretty revealing.

Behind the scenes on Top Shot season 3 with Phil Morden

http://www.examiner.com/firearms-in-detroit/behind-the-scenes-on-top-shot-season-3-with-phil-morden

"Michigan's own Phil Morden was eliminated from Top Shot season 3 on Tuesday after a controversial elimination challenge where he faced a previously eliminated contestant brought in after Phil's designated opponent, Jake Zweig, suddenly quit the show.

I recently interviewed Phil about the competition, his relationship with the other competitors, and the allegations by a former season 2 cast member that the show is "rigged" by the producers."

I put it in again as a bare link. The original and the second one both work for me. If it doesn't work for anyone else let me know and I'll figure out my link fail.

Jake's Tweet:
Look at this. Im putting NEXT LEVEL TRAINING out of business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With pictures of packages of "Jake" targets.

Hey, if they don't really hate each other... so much the better.
What I extracted from his Tweet was that he was upset over unauthorized
use of his image.

I think he was playing it up because he gets a cut of the sales. There's no way those targets could have been made without his consent, and without cutting him a check. He obviously POSED for them.
I would think that Mike is smarter than that.
