I've been doing yet another seasonal re-shuffle of the old arsenal and it dawned on me that no matter how hard I try to boil down to one do-everything handgun, I always seem to end up with one for CCW in town and another for field & trail use. Does anyone else find this pattern? If so what are your choices?

Right now I've got the Speed Six .357 and a Three Screw Blackhawk in .41 Magnum. The Six is my carry gun, and the Blackhawk will fill the place of field revolver, esp. loaded with the heavy Buff. bores.

I sympathize with your problem because I have the same issues. I live in the country and often visit 'town' and other populated areas. My country guns are always revolvers and my 'city' guns are always autos.

I guess it is because I like the fine single-action triggers and adjustable sights on my Smith and Wesson revolvers that let me hit small game/predators at a distance, or revolvers that let me shoot cartridges suitable for deer. When in CCW territory, the flatness and capacity of autos become issues.

I use the same gun for both. However, if I were back in Wyoming instead of NC, I would probably use a full size 10mm for county, and the .45 everywhere else. I used the .45 there for years, and could hit well with it at extreme ranges, but a 10 hits harder at long range (100-200 yards) than a .45, and the higher velocity makes hitting with the first shot more likely, though by the second or third shot a good .45 can send a prairie dog to prairie dog heaven at 200 yards or more.

While I have a variety of guns, I prefer the 1 gun 1method. My duty weapon is DAO and I carry it off duty as well. Those times when it's much too large, I opt for either a K40 or P11 or Jframe all DAO.

Town: G29, CZ P01, or Ruger SP101 3" (Always concealed carry - Seecamp .32 if "really" concealed attire has to be worn)
Country: GP100 4", S&W 627PC 5" or S&W 629 6" half lug. (Open Carry)
