I pulled up data from IMR on the internet for Trail Boss in .45 Colt. The C.O.L. given is 1.650. If I seat my cast 250 gr LRNFP at that depth, I,m barely into the cannelure of the bullet. Not much to crimp into.
I usually use 5 grns of American Select with an overall length of 1.580. This seats the bullet nicely and the crimp almost hides the cannelure of the bullet. I realize there'll be more Trail boss for the same weight of powder volumewise, after all, that's why I'm using it (to fill up that big brass case). Do I have anything to be concerned about? By the way, I'll be shooting these out of a S&W Model 25.
