Hello all,
My name is Todd and I have been on the lookout for some new training drills and scenarios to perfect my home defense and concealed carry. So far I have found a number of good drills and tutorials from Action Target, and Springfield Armory with "worlds collide". These Rob Pincus, and Latham videos cover a lot of basic technique and speed shooting. I would be greatly appreciative of any suggestions or links to so more knowledge. THANKS!! if anyone would like some of the info i have compiled i would be happy to share!!

Thanks

I'm a big fan of running timed drills against known standards. Try this:

https://pistol-training.com/drills/hackathorn-standards

and one of my favorites, the El Presidente:

El Presidente Stages:

Range: 10 yards (variation = 7 yards)
Target: 3 IPSC or IDPA targets spaced 1yard apart from each other shoulder to shoulder
Start position: Back to targets; hands above shoulders (“surrender position”); handgun concealed
Rounds fired: 12

Goal: Complete drill in 10 seconds with all A-Zone hits. Any string with less than 12 A-Zone hits is a fail.

Note: For all timed drills, free shot-timer Apps for smart phones are available, e.g. SureFire Shot Timer for iPhone, IPSC Shot Timer for Android, or you can buy hardware like the Pocket Pro or CED7000timers.

1. At the start signal, turn, then draw from concealment and fire two rounds at each of the three targets.
2. Perform a reload, then fire two rounds at each target again.
3. There should be four hits on each target for a total of twelve hits.

I alos really like a modified "Pincus Shooting Standards Drill" which I run on steel plates versus cardboard.

Thanks so much Chuck, and Shawn!! Great Info!! I love the El Pres, one of my favorite timed drills to shoot. Pushes you to shoot quickly, but accurately along with incorporating a reload....too much fun for me!! Thanks for the insight and ideas!

the ones i do most for time are el prez, bill drill, and 10-10-10 and half drills

I like El Presidente and the Bill Drill. Occasionally, after the "usual" practice, and when I have the range to myself, I set up an Illinois Agility Test course and run that before I shoot.

I'm a big fan of Bill Wilson's 5 X 5 handgun skills test, you can easily find the specifics on line. It requires one standard IDPA target, gun, spare mag, holster, 25 rounds of ammo, and a shot timer. You can even do it with a 5 shot wheel gun. Its a great way to measure your improvement, requires multiple skills, and doesn't take long to set up and run through it providing of course that you have a place you can shoot. I have an outdoor pistol range at home, and even at that it can be hard to find the chance to get out and practice at times, but at least in the summer months I can nearly always take 15 or 20 minutes to run through it two or three times. There's also a modified version to shoot with a rifle and transitioning to handgun. If you don't always carry the same gun, shoot this drill with anything you are likely to carry. I was getting pretty smug with my G19, then picked up a new G43 and dropped back to bonehead rookie level. Mags don't drop out freely on reloads and they are smaller so inserting the fresh mag is different, grip is harder to acquire a firm grasp, its just different than I was used to. But if I'm going to carry it, I'd better be proficient with it, so I keep drilling with it, and Th 5 X 5 is a good way to do it. And when the wind is swirling the snow around outside I can stay in the house with my "Sirt" pistol and do a dry fire version of the drill. :)
