Well, I went through Defensive Edge's level 1 handgun class yesterday. Due to some unexpected weather, I'm now qualified to participate in a firefight during a full monsoon, and can slice the pie while treading water.
The training was excellent. They started with the basics, as required in a level 1 class, but things progressed rapidly. I didn't get to meet Sully, but our instructor, Mark, was an extremely competent chap, one of the guys that can both 'do' and 'teach'. We covered the basics, and touched on weapon retention, firing from cover, and doing a tac reload while dodging lightning strikes and ducking misquitos. All in all, we went through about 300 rounds, covering everything from literal contact distance to about 25 yards.
Breaking down the classes into levels from 1 through 3 seems to be a great way to make sure everyone's on the same sheet of music as skills and complexity increases. I'm really looking forward to going back for level 2 in a month or so.
These guys are competent, experienced, and offer useful training at a great price. If you're in the MN area, check them out.
