Has anybody tried this thing? I'm getting ready to toss my Lee with all it's special shellholders, seperate configurations for different primer sizes and little round dish (since primers come in SQUARE containers) and getting this thing. Is the convenience worth the $40+ ? How's the seating "feel"?

From their site:

UNIVERSAL HAND PRIMING TOOL

Are you inconvenienced by having to use “special” shell holders for your hand priming tool? The new RCBS® Universal Hand Priming Tool eliminates that problem. The UHPT features a Universal Shell Holder system that will accept cases from .32 ACP to .45-70 Government. Simply install the appropriate size screw-in primer plug, fill the primer tray, insert it into the tool and you are off and priming! The ergonomic grip is comfortable to use by right or left handed users. The Primer Seating Safety Gate isolates the primer being inserted from the primer supply in the tray.

Free bump because I'm curious also. The square primer tray is one of those things that you :banghead: because you should have thought of it.

I admit that the square holder is pretty intuitive, however I don't like the style with press type shell holders because it increases the throw of the lever to what I think is uncomfortable. As to the "special" shell holders, about $12.00 for a full set covering over 115 calibers plus about $10 for the tool comes to about half of this one.

I don't use one much anymore, but when I did, I simply put a tad of grease on the connector in the Lee tool when changing primer pins and it had never failed me in tens of thousands of rounds.

I've used one for about 15 months for 9mm, .38/.357, 10mm and .45ACP. I like it. Easy to operate and I get good results. I managed to seat a primer upside down once, no KB.

Be very careful when assembling to orient the seating rod correctly. One end is somewhat tapered. That is the end that DOESN'T seat the primer.

The only Lee product I currently have is the auto prime2.I bought 2,one for large primers, one for small,so I don't have to keep switching back and forth.I agree, put a dab of grease on the contact points and works smooth as butter. The only thing I don't like is trying to dump the primers without some spilling.

kart racer...Just leave the feed ramp on and redispence the primers back in to the packets...I have found this to be very easy unless you have one he++ of a shaky hand and that might even be a plus...:D

I have an earlier version of the RCBS priming tool with the round primer tray and uless they've changed the way the keep the slide bar stop its can be a PIA to use. The retaining pin and holder come loose as the tool is used. I wasn't happy with the RCBS and bought the Lee with a set of shell holders and have used it now for several years while the RCBS tool sits on the shelf.

Other than the Lee, I think the Hornady hand priming tool looks good though I've not owned or tried one yet. Perhaps if and when the Lee breaks.

No, it's Lee

After much reading on the forums, I chose Lee 'Auto Prime'. It was easy, after noting that many longtime, RCBS customers - chose this Lee product for a number of reasons.

I'll use my Lee as I did last night for .45 ACP and other times for three different, rifle calibers.

Suggestion: The (dedicated) shellholders will only fit the Auto Prime (and will not fit a reloading press), keep it simple, buy the entire set of shellholders - when you buy the unit. I've primed using a single station, reloading press, before - hah, try this product!

Mine doesn't work too smooth. I have to apply pressure with the thumb (which is uncomfortable to begin with) then back off because it gets kind of stuck - it binds - and then apply pressure again and the primer will pop into place.
