So over the last year or so, I've been reading off and on about the new(ish) Trail Boss powder by IMR. I know none of my guns are the intended calibers, but I wanted to try it anyway (mmm...doughnuts :neener: ). The only thing I have that it could possibly work in is a .45 ACP.

Anyway, I searched through here, and saw someone mention 4.0gr behind a 200gr bullet, so I figured I'd start around there. I went with 4.2gr behind a 200gr SWC. That seemed to fill the case right up to the bullet. I accidentally double charged one case, but saw it right away, as it was filled to the brim!

I loaded up 25, and shot them this evening. I also had about 15 loaded with 4.5gr of Titegroup also with the 200gr SWC, and some Blazer Brass 230gr ball for comparison. I noticed the smell at the first shot...as ulflyer mentioned, there is a definite odor to it, but not bad...just different. I don't have a chrono yet, but based on feel, they were lighter than the Titegroup loads, which were lighter than the factory loads. Not a cream puff load by any means, but plan to work down to one.

One nice thing about the powder, is there wasn't any unburnt flakes in the action. I've loaded some soft loads with Universal Clays, and had flakes in my gun; not so with this.
