Hey all,

I just wanted to know what tripods people were using with their scopes. I just bought the Leupold sx-1 ventana 20-60x 80mm and the tripod it came with is ok but I would like a better one. Any suggestions? Oh I don't want to pay more than I paid for the scope. Would like to keep the price around $100 if that is possible.

I used a photo tripod for my scopes for years and always tripped over the legs if on the ground or it took up too much room if on the bench.

Finally bought a dedicated scope stand from Creedmoor Sports and it's great. Not less than $100, but works great.

When I shot bullseye, I used a camera tripod head adapted to a clamp that I could clamp onto my shooting box, the bench, a car window or just about anything thinner than about 3".

If you are looking for a tripod for hunting, you can spend enough for a new rifle and not get the top of the line! I just bought a Vanguard, it extends tall enough that I can stand up and use it, and is pretty sturdy. I got the 129.99 model from Cabela's. I can live with it. Get the quick detachable mounts for it and you can use it for your bino's, spotting scope, and chrony. Get a window mount too for your spotter. They are indispensable.

This won't be used for hunting at least not at first. Primarily for the range out to 500yds spotting groupings. I kind of like the look of the polecat from creedmore sports that GarySTL recommended but it is a total of $309ish with two extensions for the 1" pole.

I found a swivel base in my collection of stuff that I made an adapter for to mount a spotting scope. I screw it to one of the posts by the shooting bench, stays put better than another method I have tried.

I don't have the Pole Cat. I have the Creedmoor Deluxe with the 3/4" rods. Sells for $210.

It easily adjusts up and down. The zoom head on the stand has a thumb screw to allow a range of changes to elevation angles. I'll admit that it does sway a little in the wind if both extensions are used, but for me it's a lot better than a photo tripod. I'm using it with my Konus 100 mm scope. After adjusting focus it settles down in a few seconds. Creedmore also sells a nice set of padded scope covers as well as a storage bag for the scope stand. No, not the one for $50, the one for $20. N1011 is the model #
Now I use my photo tripod to hold my chronograph.
