I took it to the range last saturday and bought a box of CCI standard pressure rounds. The first couple of rounds ran as you would expect but thereafter on recoil, the slide would only come back as far as to put the hammer in half cock and the empty did not eject. I took it apart to inspect for any kind of damage but everything seemed to be in order. Granted, I didn't clean it from it's last outing but in racking the slide manually, I felt no binding or roughness. I figure the empty didn't eject because the slide didn't travel back far enough for the ejector to engage. I'm leaning toward a bad batch of ammo but that little voice in the back of my head says differently. I cleaned and lubed it up this afternoon and my plan is to go to the range tomorrow and use the remainder of a box of .22 ammo I have in the safe that I know worked on my last outing. Oh, by the way, I switched the Kadet kit out for the 9mm setup and it ran flawlessly. Other than a bad batch of ammo, can someone comment on other possibilities?

I have the whole Kadet

not the conversion. I just bought it and have put about 250 rounds through it. One tiny problem with it is that the hammer top needs just a very, very slight filing down because it drags ever so slightly on the slide. Now, when I am firing this is not a problem. It cycles very well....even with some bulk Federal in it. It is only a tiny problem when I rack the slide. Sometimes it tries to hang up. I am mentioning this as perhaps some clue to what is wrong with yours.

I've had the hammer hang up on the slide a time or two but it has always been when the slide is going forward. I've never had it fail in the rearward travel. In this situation, the slide kicks the hammer back to half cock but never gets to the point where it rides over the hammer.

My Kadet doesn't run well with some CCI ammo.
Other stuff like bulk Federal or Remington runs fine.

Shot 80 rounds a few weeks ago. Only one light strike, and that
was from a lone CCI Mini-Mag.

I still think it makes the best CZ poster.

Perhaps it's the "standard velocity" bit that is the problem? On many of the rifle or pistol .22 conversions that seem to be hitting the market, "high velocity" .22 is a must for it to function correctly. I've heard that with time and enough lube, you can "work your way down" in power levels of .22lr and it still work effectively.

Enh well, still way cheaper than the primary round it's replacing for shooting purposes.

The CCI standard velocity ammo is all I've ever used in it and it has always run well...a light strike/misfire on occassion but otherwise fine. I'll switch to high velocity in remington and see what happens. I might put a light coat of grease in the rails as opposed to the CLP I usually use.

No problems with several hundred rounds of Federal bulk ammo. I'd try some different ammo and see what comes out of it. CZ support is also very helpful, might be worth giving them a shout.

Not a CZ, but my Bersa .22 will not cycle Federal 80% of the time. Remington golden bullet is 100% as is some basic remington lead RN. just a few FPS may make all the difference.

I got the threaded Kadet (not kit) from Tactical Innovations. All I've shot is CCI standard velocity, subsonics or Winchester subsonics. It's cycled all them fine from day one.

Try changing the ammo. It might need a higher power load to break in the action.

I have maybe 700 rounds through it (most of it CCI standard velocity) and have never seen this problem before. I was headed out to the range today but the joys of home ownership got in the way. I'll get there tomorrow for sure. Thanks for all your help so far.

You guys were right. As mentioned, I cleaned it real well and lubed it up the other day. Took it to the range this morning and ran 50 rounds of high velocity remington through it without a hitch. Thanks to all of you for the input.
