So, here we are again... a little bonus from work + July 4th sale(s) = buying yet another AR something.

Just wanted to get your take on a couple of uppers I've been looking at:

TROY Upper or PSA Upper

Purpose? Practice, HD, SHTF, another quality rifle to put along side my DD and Saiga AK and... well, because I want to get another one and the good ol' 2A allows me to do so. If might end up on a PSA lower for now... ;-)

I currently have a PSA stainless middy upper on the way ($200). I've heard plenty about their quality for the money. They have free shipping now over the holidays. Reports are some buyers are so impressed they promptly order another.

PSA has better barrel, no BCG. Personally don't care for the rail.

Good luck

Both are nice and will work just as well. Just be forewarned that you need to be patient if you go with PSA as it may take several weeks to ship.

Mine should be here Friday. That would make about 10 days shipped to NM.

YMMV

That Troy upper for 499 is a steal. Same upper that came on my Troy 5.56 Carbine.

Wow, she is indeed a beauty... about how heavy is that upper?
The PSA upper is a pencil barrel, so I would *assume* it's fairly light...

The Troy is a steal as it comes with $175 worth of sights and a BCG and handle. I like Troy stuff it is a good solid 2nd tier maker. The Troy alpha rail is very slim and nice too, the flash hider is worth more than the A2 one. Melonite barrels may be more accurate than lower grade chrome lined ones as are "ultra light" barrels likely to be less accurate.

I would definitely go with PSA. Their FN-built CHF barrels are as good as it gets, and pencil profile is a big improvement over the backwards govt-profile barrel (which is just a pencil barrel that turns heavy after the gas block, where the extra weight serves no purpose).

Plus I don't know if you've heard about some of Troy's business practices -- you can run some searches if you want more details, but basically they thought nothing of hiring an anti-gun former Chicago police chief, and the commander of the fed sniper team that murdered Vicki Weaver at Ruby Ridge. I personally won't do business with them anymore.

I recently took advantage of PSA's free Fathers Day shipping and ordered a PSA 16" Midlength 5.56 NATO 1/7 Melonite Freedom Upper - with BCG and CH for $289. Mated it with a $169 PSA MOE lower. The upper is not their high end but it will serve me well.
And shipping on the lower to my LGS was very fast..4 days and the upper to me took about 6 days. Very pleased so far.

I suggest you read up on Troy's hiring policies before you consider buying any of their products.

I personally like PSA, but the Troy is a really good price considering it comes with a BCG, CH and sights. If you plan on using sights, get the Troy, if not then the PSA makes sense.
