Today I tumbled some brass that had some pretty deep scratches. Hard to measure but you could certainly feel them with your finger or nail. After tumbling for 2.5 hrs I cannot tell which cases had the scratches. Just how much brass do those little rods remove anyway??

^^I doubt much brass is removed; it's just peened to cover the scratches^^

yep thats what I would think too

With SS media I tend to only tumble for about an hour - always does a stunning job.

Doesn't remove brass, just moves it to cover scratches.

Welcome to THR, and the addict :what: .. oh, no, I mean hobby - ya that's it, hobby! :scrutiny:

Welcome to the forum.

If you are using the stainless media when wet tumbling, 2.5 hours seems excessive. Not because of damage to the cases, but just as overkill in the cleaning process.

If you are concerned about wear from the media, just stop using the pins. When wet tumbling pistol brass, I go a little heavier on the Lemi-shine, a little light on the Armor-all Wash and Wax (I hate suds) and run them for about 1.5-2 hours.

When tumbling .223 cases with pins, I'm usually running the tumbler 1-1.5 hours
